The Wrong Group Chat Message

Idalia wants to send Colton a kind text. He fails his driving test that morning. She wants to cheer him up.

Idalia quer mandar uma mensagem gentil para Colton. Ele reprovou na prova de direção naquela manhã. Ela quer animá-lo.

She opens their group chat by mistake. Six other friends are in that chat too. She does not notice the wrong window.

Ela abre o grupo de chat por engano. Outros seis amigos também estão nesse grupo. Ela não percebe que é a janela errada.

"Don't worry about the test," she types. "Try again soon. I still think you drive well."

"Não se preocupe com a prova", ela digita. "Tente de novo logo. Eu ainda acho que você dirige bem."

She hits send and looks up. Then her stomach drops. She sees the chat name. It says "Friend Group," not "Colton."

Ela aperta enviar e levanta os olhos. Então seu estômago afunda. Ela vê o nome do chat. Está escrito "Grupo de Amigos", não "Colton".

Idalia stares at her phone in shock. Five people already read the message. Colton says nothing back.

Idalia olha para o celular, chocada. Cinco pessoas já leram a mensagem. Colton não responde nada.

Two minutes later, her phone buzzes with laughter emojis. Someone writes, "Wrong chat, Idalia?" Another friend adds three laughing faces.

Dois minutos depois, o celular dela vibra com emojis de risada. Alguém escreve: "Chat errado, Idalia?" Outro amigo acrescenta três carinhas rindo.

Idalia feels her face turn red. She quickly sends another message. "Oops! That was for Colton. Ignore me, everyone."

Idalia sente o rosto ficar vermelho. Ela rapidamente manda outra mensagem. "Ops! Aquilo era para o Colton. Ignorem, pessoal."

Colton finally replies in the group chat. "Thanks for the support," he writes. "Now everyone knows I failed. No secrets here."

Colton finalmente responde no grupo. "Valeu pelo apoio", ele escreve. "Agora todo mundo sabe que eu reprovei. Nada de segredo por aqui."

The whole group laughs, including Colton. Idalia sends him a private message this time. "Sorry about that," she writes. "Want to study together before the next test?"

O grupo inteiro ri, incluindo Colton. Dessa vez, Idalia manda uma mensagem privada para ele. "Desculpa por aquilo", ela escreve. "Quer estudar comigo antes da próxima prova?"

Colton sends back a thumbs-up. "Deal," he writes. "But you check the chat name first this time."

Colton responde com um joinha. "Fechado", ele escreve. "Mas dessa vez você confere o nome do chat antes."

The next week, Idalia double-checks every chat name. She still teases herself about the mistake. Colton brings it up at every game night.

Na semana seguinte, Idalia confere duas vezes o nome de cada chat. Ela ainda brinca consigo mesma sobre o erro. Colton sempre fala sobre isso em toda noite de jogos.
