The Early Bus

Katrin runs to the bus stop every morning at 7:40. Today she leaves home two minutes late.

Katrin corre para o ponto de ônibus todas as manhãs às 7h40. Hoje ela sai de casa dois minutos atrasada.

She turns the corner and sees the bus pull away. Katrin stops and watches it disappear down the street.

Ela dobra a esquina e vê o ônibus partir. Katrin para e observa ele desaparecer rua abaixo.

"Not again," she says, out of breath. She checks her phone for the next bus time.

"De novo não", ela diz, ofegante. Ela olha o celular para ver o horário do próximo ônibus.

The next bus comes in twenty-five minutes. That is too late for her first class. She has an important test today.

O próximo ônibus chega em vinte e cinco minutos. Isso é tarde demais para a primeira aula. Ela tem uma prova importante hoje.

Katrin thinks for a moment and looks around. The train station is only a few blocks away.

Katrin pensa por um instante e olha ao redor. A estação de trem fica a poucos quarteirões dali.

She starts walking fast toward the station. She checks the schedule board at the station door.

Ela começa a andar rápido em direção à estação. Ela confere o painel de horários na porta da estação.

A train leaves for downtown in six minutes. Katrin buys a ticket and hurries to the platform.

Um trem sai para o centro em seis minutos. Katrin compra uma passagem e corre para a plataforma.

The train doors open, and she steps inside. She finds a seat and catches her breath.

As portas do trem se abrem, e ela entra. Ela encontra um assento e recupera o fôlego.

The train moves quickly through the city. Katrin reaches her stop close to school.

O trem avança rápido pela cidade. Katrin chega ao seu ponto perto da escola.

She walks the last block and reaches the school gate. The bell rings. She reaches the door at the same moment.

Ela caminha o último quarteirão e chega ao portão da escola. O sinal toca. Ela chega à porta no mesmo instante.
