The Tooth in the Sandwich

It is lunchtime at school. Bodil sits at a long table with her friends. She opens her bag and takes out a cheese sandwich.

É hora do almoço na escola. Bodil se senta a uma mesa comprida com os amigos. Ela abre a mochila e tira um sanduíche de queijo.

One of her teeth is loose. It moves when she touches it. Bodil does not like it.

Um dos dentes dela está mole. Mexe quando ela o toca. Bodil não gosta disso.

She takes a big bite of the sandwich. Something is hard. She stops and puts her hand on her mouth.

Ela dá uma grande mordida no sanduíche. Algo está duro. Ela para e leva a mão à boca.

The tooth is gone! It is somewhere in the bread. Bodil looks at the sandwich. She cannot see the tooth anywhere.

O dente se foi! Está em algum lugar no pão. Bodil olha para o sanduíche. Não consegue ver o dente em lugar nenhum.

"My tooth is in my sandwich!" she says. Her friends stop eating and look at her.

"Meu dente está no meu sanduíche!", diz ela. Os amigos param de comer e olham para ela.

"Where is it?" asks a boy. "I can help you look."

"Onde está?", pergunta um menino. "Posso ajudar você a procurar."

They open the bread. They look in the cheese. A girl takes the lettuce out and checks every leaf. Bodil looks at the table and the floor.

Eles abrem o pão. Olham no queijo. Uma menina tira a alface e examina cada folha. Bodil olha para a mesa e para o chão.

"I do not see it," says the girl.

"Não vejo", diz a menina.

"Wait," says Bodil. She looks at the last bite of bread. There it is, small and white, in the soft part.

"Espere", diz Bodil. Ela olha para o último pedaço de pão. Ali está ele, pequeno e branco, na parte macia.

She takes it out. She wraps it in a clean napkin. She puts it in her bag. "Now I can eat my lunch," she says.

Ela o tira. Embrulha-o em um guardanapo limpo. Coloca na mochila. "Agora posso comer meu almoço", diz ela.
