The Tooth in the Sandwich

It is lunchtime at school. Bodil sits at a long table with her friends. She opens her bag and takes out a cheese sandwich.

Es la hora del almuerzo en la escuela. Bodil está sentada a una mesa larga con sus amigos. Abre su mochila y saca un sándwich de queso.

One of her teeth is loose. It moves when she touches it. Bodil does not like it.

Uno de sus dientes está flojo. Se mueve cuando lo toca. A Bodil no le gusta.

She takes a big bite of the sandwich. Something is hard. She stops and puts her hand on her mouth.

Le da un gran mordisco al sándwich. Algo está duro. Se detiene y se lleva la mano a la boca.

The tooth is gone! It is somewhere in the bread. Bodil looks at the sandwich. She cannot see the tooth anywhere.

¡El diente se fue! Está en algún lugar del pan. Bodil mira el sándwich. No ve el diente por ninguna parte.

"My tooth is in my sandwich!" she says. Her friends stop eating and look at her.

«¡Mi diente está en mi sándwich!», dice. Sus amigos dejan de comer y la miran.

"Where is it?" asks a boy. "I can help you look."

«¿Dónde está?», pregunta un niño. «Puedo ayudarte a buscar».

They open the bread. They look in the cheese. A girl takes the lettuce out and checks every leaf. Bodil looks at the table and the floor.

Abren el pan. Miran en el queso. Una niña saca la lechuga y revisa cada hoja. Bodil mira la mesa y el suelo.

"I do not see it," says the girl.

«No lo veo», dice la niña.

"Wait," says Bodil. She looks at the last bite of bread. There it is, small and white, in the soft part.

«Espera», dice Bodil. Mira el último bocado de pan. Ahí está, pequeño y blanco, en la parte blanda.

She takes it out. She wraps it in a clean napkin. She puts it in her bag. "Now I can eat my lunch," she says.

Lo saca. Lo envuelve en una servilleta limpia. Lo guarda en su mochila. «Ahora puedo comer mi almuerzo», dice.
