Idris arrives early to math class every day. He likes the quiet room before the bell. He usually reads a book alone.
Idris chega cedo à aula de matemática todos os dias. Ele gosta da sala tranquila antes do sinal. Geralmente lê um livro sozinho.
Today, a classmate named Priscilla sits two seats away. She stares at her homework with a worried face. She erases the same problem three times.
Hoje, uma colega chamada Priscilla senta duas cadeiras adiante. Ela olha para a lição de casa com uma cara preocupada. Ela apaga o mesmo problema três vezes.
Idris notices her frustration from across the room. He does not know Priscilla very well. He decides to offer help.
Idris percebe a frustração dela do outro lado da sala. Ele não conhece Priscilla muito bem. Ele decide oferecer ajuda.
"Do you want help with that problem?" he asks quietly. Priscilla looks up, surprised. "Yes, please," she says. "I don't understand this part."
"Você quer ajuda com esse problema?", ele pergunta baixinho. Priscilla olha para cima, surpresa. "Sim, por favor", ela diz. "Eu não entendo essa parte."
Idris moves to the seat next to her. He points at the first step of the problem. "Try this part first," he says.
Idris se muda para a cadeira ao lado dela. Ele aponta para o primeiro passo do problema. "Tenta essa parte primeiro", ele diz.
Priscilla tries his idea on her paper. The numbers start to look clear. She solves the rest of the problem herself.
Priscilla tenta a ideia dele no papel. Os números começam a ficar claros. Ela resolve o resto do problema sozinha.
"Thank you very much," Priscilla says. "I did not understand this for a long time."
"Muito obrigada", Priscilla diz. "Eu não entendia isso fazia muito tempo."
"You're welcome," Idris says. "I like math a lot."
"De nada", Idris diz. "Eu gosto bastante de matemática."
The teacher walks in and starts the lesson. Priscilla smiles at Idris across the room.
A professora entra e começa a aula. Priscilla sorri para Idris do outro lado da sala.
