The Quiet Help Before Math Class

Idris arrives early to math class every day. He likes the quiet room before the bell. He usually reads a book alone.

Idris đến lớp toán sớm mỗi ngày. Cậu thích căn phòng yên tĩnh trước khi chuông reo. Cậu thường đọc sách một mình.

Today, a classmate named Priscilla sits two seats away. She stares at her homework with a worried face. She erases the same problem three times.

Hôm nay, một bạn cùng lớp tên là Priscilla ngồi cách đó hai chỗ. Cô bé nhìn chằm chằm vào bài tập với vẻ mặt lo lắng. Cô bé xóa cùng một bài toán ba lần.

Idris notices her frustration from across the room. He does not know Priscilla very well. He decides to offer help.

Idris nhận ra sự bối rối của cô bé từ phía bên kia phòng. Cậu không biết Priscilla nhiều. Cậu quyết định đề nghị giúp đỡ.

"Do you want help with that problem?" he asks quietly. Priscilla looks up, surprised. "Yes, please," she says. "I don't understand this part."

"Bạn có muốn mình giúp bài đó không?" cậu hỏi nhỏ. Priscilla ngước lên, ngạc nhiên. "Có, cảm ơn bạn," cô bé nói. "Mình không hiểu phần này."

Idris moves to the seat next to her. He points at the first step of the problem. "Try this part first," he says.

Idris chuyển sang chỗ ngồi cạnh cô bé. Cậu chỉ vào bước đầu tiên của bài toán. "Thử làm phần này trước," cậu nói.

Priscilla tries his idea on her paper. The numbers start to look clear. She solves the rest of the problem herself.

Priscilla thử theo cách của cậu trên giấy của mình. Các con số bắt đầu trở nên rõ ràng. Cô bé tự giải phần còn lại của bài toán.

"Thank you very much," Priscilla says. "I did not understand this for a long time."

"You're welcome," Idris says. "I like math a lot."

"Không có gì," Idris nói. "Mình rất thích môn toán."

The teacher walks in and starts the lesson. Priscilla smiles at Idris across the room.
