Idris arrives early to math class every day. He likes the quiet room before the bell. He usually reads a book alone.
इद्रिस हर दिन गणित की कक्षा में जल्दी पहुँच जाता है। उसे घंटी बजने से पहले का शांत कमरा अच्छा लगता है। वह आमतौर पर अकेले कोई किताब पढ़ता है।
Today, a classmate named Priscilla sits two seats away. She stares at her homework with a worried face. She erases the same problem three times.
आज प्रिसिला नाम की एक सहपाठी दो सीट दूर बैठी है। वह चिंतित चेहरे से अपने होमवर्क को घूर रही है। वह एक ही सवाल को तीन बार मिटा चुकी है।
Idris notices her frustration from across the room. He does not know Priscilla very well. He decides to offer help.
इद्रिस कमरे के दूसरे कोने से उसकी परेशानी देख लेता है। वह प्रिसिला को ज़्यादा नहीं जानता। फिर भी वह मदद करने का फ़ैसला करता है।
"Do you want help with that problem?" he asks quietly. Priscilla looks up, surprised. "Yes, please," she says. "I don't understand this part."
"क्या तुम्हें इस सवाल में मदद चाहिए?" वह धीरे से पूछता है। प्रिसिला चौंककर ऊपर देखती है। "हाँ, प्लीज़," वह कहती है। "मुझे यह हिस्सा समझ नहीं आ रहा।"
Idris moves to the seat next to her. He points at the first step of the problem. "Try this part first," he says.
इद्रिस खिसककर उसके बगल वाली सीट पर आ जाता है। वह सवाल के पहले चरण की ओर इशारा करता है। "पहले यह हिस्सा करके देखो," वह कहता है।
Priscilla tries his idea on her paper. The numbers start to look clear. She solves the rest of the problem herself.
प्रिसिला अपनी कॉपी पर उसका तरीक़ा आज़माती है। संख्याएँ साफ़ दिखने लगती हैं। बाक़ी सवाल वह ख़ुद हल कर लेती है।
"Thank you very much," Priscilla says. "I did not understand this for a long time."
"बहुत-बहुत शुक्रिया," प्रिसिला कहती है। "मुझे यह बहुत समय से समझ नहीं आ रहा था।"
"You're welcome," Idris says. "I like math a lot."
"कोई बात नहीं," इद्रिस कहता है। "मुझे गणित बहुत पसंद है।"
The teacher walks in and starts the lesson. Priscilla smiles at Idris across the room.
