The Sunrise Climb

Odile and Ilya wanted to see the sunrise. At a quarter past five, they stood below Green Hill. It was still dark. The air was cold. They had bread and water in a bag.

Odile e Ilya queriam ver o nascer do sol. Às cinco e quinze, eles estavam ao pé do Morro Verde. Ainda estava escuro. O ar estava frio. Eles tinham pão e água numa bolsa.

There were two paths. The short path was steep. It took thirty minutes. The long path was easy, but it took an hour.

Havia dois caminhos. O caminho curto era íngreme. Levava trinta minutos. O caminho longo era fácil, mas levava uma hora.

"The sun comes up at six," Odile said. "The long path is too slow."

"O sol nasce às seis", disse Odile. "O caminho longo é lento demais."

Ilya looked at the steep path. "It is dark, and the stones are big," he said.

Ilya olhou para o caminho íngreme. "Está escuro, e as pedras são grandes", disse ele.

"I have a strong flashlight," Odile said. "We can see the stones."

"Eu tenho uma lanterna forte", disse Odile. "Podemos ver as pedras."

"And my knees?" Ilya asked.

"E os meus joelhos?", perguntou Ilya.

"Your knees are good today," she said. "You ran to the bus!"

"Seus joelhos estão bem hoje", ela disse. "Você correu para pegar o ônibus!"

Ilya laughed. "Okay. We take the short path."

Ilya riu. "Está bem. Vamos pelo caminho curto."

They started to climb. The path was very steep. They stopped two times and drank water.

Eles começaram a subir. O caminho era muito íngreme. Eles pararam duas vezes e beberam água.

At the top, the sky was pink and orange. Odile looked at her phone. It was one minute before six.

No topo, o céu estava rosa e laranja. Odile olhou para o celular. Faltava um minuto para as seis.

They sat down on a big rock. Then the sun came up over the hills.

Eles se sentaram numa pedra grande. Então o sol nasceu sobre as colinas.

"Just in time," Ilya said.

"Bem na hora", disse Ilya.
