The Sunrise Climb

Odile and Ilya wanted to see the sunrise. At a quarter past five, they stood below Green Hill. It was still dark. The air was cold. They had bread and water in a bag.

Odile e Ilya querían ver el amanecer. A las cinco y cuarto, estaban al pie de Green Hill. Todavía estaba oscuro. El aire era frío. Llevaban pan y agua en una bolsa.

There were two paths. The short path was steep. It took thirty minutes. The long path was easy, but it took an hour.

Había dos senderos. El sendero corto era empinado. Tomaba treinta minutos. El sendero largo era fácil, pero tomaba una hora.

"The sun comes up at six," Odile said. "The long path is too slow."

«El sol sale a las seis», dijo Odile. «El sendero largo es demasiado lento.»

Ilya looked at the steep path. "It is dark, and the stones are big," he said.

Ilya miró el sendero empinado. «Está oscuro y las piedras son grandes», dijo.

"I have a strong flashlight," Odile said. "We can see the stones."

«Tengo una linterna potente», dijo Odile. «Podemos ver las piedras.»

"And my knees?" Ilya asked.

«¿Y mis rodillas?», preguntó Ilya.

"Your knees are good today," she said. "You ran to the bus!"

«Tus rodillas están bien hoy», dijo ella. «¡Corriste para alcanzar el autobús!»

Ilya laughed. "Okay. We take the short path."

Ilya se rió. «Está bien. Tomamos el sendero corto.»

They started to climb. The path was very steep. They stopped two times and drank water.

Empezaron a subir. El sendero era muy empinado. Se detuvieron dos veces y bebieron agua.

At the top, the sky was pink and orange. Odile looked at her phone. It was one minute before six.

En la cima, el cielo estaba rosa y naranja. Odile miró su teléfono. Faltaba un minuto para las seis.

They sat down on a big rock. Then the sun came up over the hills.

Se sentaron en una roca grande. Entonces el sol salió sobre las colinas.

"Just in time," Ilya said.

«Justo a tiempo», dijo Ilya.
