The Soup for a Sick Friend

Coco's friend was sick. He lay in bed for three days. Coco wanted to help, so she made soup.

O amigo de Coco estava doente. Ele ficou de cama por três dias. Coco queria ajudar, então fez sopa.

She cut carrots and onions. She put them in a big pot. She added chicken and water. She cooked it slowly for an hour. The kitchen smelled good.

Ela cortou cenouras e cebolas. Colocou-as em uma panela grande. Acrescentou frango e água. Cozinhou devagar por uma hora. A cozinha estava com um cheiro bom.

Then Coco tasted the soup. Her face changed. It was far too salty! She put salt in the pot two times by mistake.

Então Coco provou a sopa. O rosto dela mudou. Estava salgada demais! Ela tinha colocado sal na panela duas vezes por engano.

She looked at the pot. She could not give this soup to a sick friend. For a minute, she did not know what to do.

Ela olhou para a panela. Não podia dar aquela sopa a um amigo doente. Por um minuto, não soube o que fazer.

Then she remembered her mom's words. "Potatoes help," her mom always said.

Então se lembrou das palavras da mãe. "Batatas ajudam", a mãe sempre dizia.

Coco added a lot of water. She cut three potatoes and put them in the pot. She cooked the soup for half an hour. Then she tasted it again. Now it was good.

Coco acrescentou bastante água. Cortou três batatas e colocou na panela. Cozinhou a sopa por meia hora. Depois provou de novo. Agora estava boa.

She poured the soup into a big jar. She took the bus to her friend's flat. He sat up in bed and smelled the jar.

Ela despejou a sopa em um pote grande. Pegou o ônibus até o apartamento do amigo. Ele se sentou na cama e cheirou o pote.

He ate one bowl. "More, please," he said. He ate a second bowl too.

Ele comeu uma tigela. "Mais, por favor", disse. Comeu uma segunda tigela também.

Coco did not tell him about the salt.

Coco não contou a ele sobre o sal.
