Tobin visits the same bakery every Saturday morning. He always orders one loaf of bread. Today the shop looks different.
Tobin visita a mesma padaria toda manhã de sábado. Ele sempre pede um pão. Hoje a loja parece diferente.
A sign stands by the door. It says, "No bread today. Oven broken." Tobin stops and reads it twice.
Uma placa está ao lado da porta. Nela está escrito: "Sem pão hoje. Forno quebrado." Tobin para e lê duas vezes.
He steps inside anyway. The owner, Delia, waves from behind the counter. "Sorry, Tobin," she says. "Our big oven stopped working."
Ele entra mesmo assim. A dona, Delia, acena de trás do balcão. "Desculpe, Tobin", ela diz. "Nosso forno grande parou de funcionar."
"That's okay," Tobin says. "I can come back next week."
"Tudo bem", diz Tobin. "Posso voltar na semana que vem."
"Wait," Delia says. "Try something new today." She points to a tray of small orange rolls.
"Espere", diz Delia. "Experimente algo novo hoje." Ela aponta para uma bandeja de pãezinhos de laranja.
"What are these?" Tobin asks. "A new recipe," Delia says. "Sweet rolls with orange peel."
"O que é isso?" pergunta Tobin. "Uma receita nova", diz Delia. "Pãezinhos doces com casca de laranja."
Tobin picks one up and smells it. It smells warm and sweet. He takes a small bite.
Tobin pega um e cheira. Tem um cheiro quentinho e doce. Ele dá uma pequena mordida.
His eyes open wide. "This is really good," he says. "I like this a lot."
Seus olhos se arregalam. "Isso é realmente bom", ele diz. "Eu gostei muito disso."
Delia smiles and wraps six rolls for him. "Take these home," she says. "The oven works again next week."
Delia sorri e embrulha seis pãezinhos para ele. "Leve estes para casa", ela diz. "O forno volta a funcionar na semana que vem."
Tobin pays and carries his warm bag outside. He smells the rolls all the way home. Bread can wait until next week.
