Tobin visits the same bakery every Saturday morning. He always orders one loaf of bread. Today the shop looks different.
टोबिन हर शनिवार की सुबह उसी बेकरी में जाता है। वह हमेशा एक डबलरोटी का ऑर्डर देता है। आज दुकान कुछ अलग दिख रही है।
A sign stands by the door. It says, "No bread today. Oven broken." Tobin stops and reads it twice.
दरवाज़े के पास एक तख़्ती लगी है। उस पर लिखा है, "आज ब्रेड नहीं है। ओवन ख़राब है।" टोबिन रुककर उसे दो बार पढ़ता है।
He steps inside anyway. The owner, Delia, waves from behind the counter. "Sorry, Tobin," she says. "Our big oven stopped working."
फिर भी वह अंदर चला जाता है। मालकिन डेलिया काउंटर के पीछे से हाथ हिलाती है। "माफ़ करना, टोबिन," वह कहती है। "हमारा बड़ा ओवन बंद हो गया है।"
"That's okay," Tobin says. "I can come back next week."
"कोई बात नहीं," टोबिन कहता है। "मैं अगले हफ़्ते आ जाऊँगा।"
"Wait," Delia says. "Try something new today." She points to a tray of small orange rolls.
"रुको," डेलिया कहती है। "आज कुछ नया आज़माओ।" वह छोटे नारंगी रंग के रोल्स की एक ट्रे की ओर इशारा करती है।
"What are these?" Tobin asks. "A new recipe," Delia says. "Sweet rolls with orange peel."
"ये क्या हैं?" टोबिन पूछता है। "एक नई रेसिपी है," डेलिया कहती है। "संतरे के छिलके वाले मीठे रोल।"
Tobin picks one up and smells it. It smells warm and sweet. He takes a small bite.
टोबिन एक रोल उठाकर सूँघता है। उसमें से गरमागरम मीठी ख़ुशबू आती है। वह एक छोटा-सा टुकड़ा खाता है।
His eyes open wide. "This is really good," he says. "I like this a lot."
उसकी आँखें चौड़ी हो जाती हैं। "यह सच में बहुत बढ़िया है," वह कहता है। "मुझे यह बहुत पसंद आया।"
Delia smiles and wraps six rolls for him. "Take these home," she says. "The oven works again next week."
डेलिया मुस्कुराती है और उसके लिए छह रोल पैक कर देती है। "इन्हें घर ले जाओ," वह कहती है। "अगले हफ़्ते तक ओवन फिर से चल पड़ेगा।"
Tobin pays and carries his warm bag outside. He smells the rolls all the way home. Bread can wait until next week.
टोबिन पैसे देता है और गरम थैला लेकर बाहर आ जाता है। पूरे रास्ते घर तक उसे रोल्स की ख़ुशबू आती रहती है। ब्रेड अगले हफ़्ते तक रुक सकती है।
