Ahmed's family plans a big potluck dinner. Every person brings one dish to share. Ahmed offers to bring a salad.
अहमद का परिवार एक बड़े पॉटलक डिनर की योजना बनाता है। हर कोई बाँटने के लिए एक व्यंजन लाता है। अहमद सलाद लाने की बात कहता है।
His sister, Layla, also offers to help. "I'll bring a salad too," she says. Neither of them tells their mother.
उसकी बहन लैला भी मदद करने को कहती है। "मैं भी सलाद लाऊँगी," वह कहती है। दोनों में से कोई भी अपनी माँ को नहीं बताता।
Ahmed spends the morning cutting vegetables. Layla spends her morning doing the same thing. Neither one calls the other first.
अहमद सुबह सब्ज़ियाँ काटने में बिताता है। लैला भी अपनी सुबह यही करने में बिताती है। दोनों में से किसी ने पहले दूसरे को फ़ोन नहीं किया।
On the day of the potluck, they arrive. Ahmed carries a big bowl of salad. Layla carries the exact same salad.
पॉटलक के दिन दोनों पहुँचते हैं। अहमद सलाद का एक बड़ा कटोरा लिए आता है। लैला बिल्कुल वही सलाद लिए आती है।
"We made the same thing," Ahmed says, laughing. Layla looks at both bowls and laughs too. "We think the same way," she jokes.
"हमने एक ही चीज़ बनाई है," अहमद हँसते हुए कहता है। लैला दोनों कटोरों को देखती है और वह भी हँस पड़ती है। "हम एक जैसा सोचते हैं," वह मज़ाक़ में कहती है।
Their mother looks at the table sadly. "Now we have no bread," she says. Everyone needed different dishes, not two salads.
उनकी माँ मेज़ की ओर उदास होकर देखती हैं। "अब हमारे पास रोटी नहीं है," वे कहती हैं। सबको अलग-अलग व्यंजन चाहिए थे, दो सलाद नहीं।
Ahmed has an idea right away. He runs to the kitchen with Layla. They quickly make some simple bread together.
अहमद को तुरंत एक विचार आता है। वह लैला के साथ रसोई की ओर दौड़ता है। वे जल्दी से साथ मिलकर कुछ सादी रोटियाँ बनाते हैं।
They mix the flour, water, and salt. They shape small loaves with their hands. The bread bakes in the hot oven. Everyone waits and chats happily.
वे आटा, पानी और नमक मिलाते हैं। वे अपने हाथों से छोटी-छोटी लोइयाँ बनाते हैं। रोटियाँ गर्म तंदूर में सिकती हैं। सब इंतज़ार करते हैं और ख़ुशी से बातें करते हैं।
They bring the warm bread to the table. Everyone claps and thanks the siblings. The potluck has two salads and fresh bread.
वे गरम रोटियाँ मेज़ पर लाते हैं। सब तालियाँ बजाते हैं और भाई-बहन को धन्यवाद देते हैं। अब पॉटलक में दो सलाद हैं और ताज़ा रोटी भी।
