Marta boards the night train with a small green suitcase. She finds her cabin and opens the door. A man already sits on the bottom bunk.
मार्ता एक छोटा हरा सूटकेस लेकर रात की ट्रेन में चढ़ती है। वह अपना केबिन ढूँढ़ती है और दरवाज़ा खोलती है। नीचे की बर्थ पर एक आदमी पहले से बैठा है।
"Excuse me, this is my bunk," Marta says.
"माफ़ कीजिए, यह मेरी बर्थ है," मार्ता कहती है।
"No, I think it's mine," the man says. His name is Nikolai.
"नहीं, मुझे लगता है यह मेरी है," आदमी कहता है। उसका नाम निकोलाई है।
They both check their tickets side by side. Marta has bunk four. Nikolai has bunk four too.
दोनों साथ-साथ अपने टिकट देखते हैं। मार्ता की बर्थ चार नंबर है। निकोलाई की बर्थ भी चार नंबर है।
"Two tickets, one bunk," Nikolai says with a laugh.
"दो टिकट, एक बर्थ," निकोलाई हँसकर कहता है।
Marta finds a worker in the hall. The worker looks at both tickets. "The system made a mistake today," she says. "There is an empty bunk in the next cabin."
मार्ता गलियारे में एक कर्मचारी को ढूँढ़ती है। कर्मचारी दोनों टिकट देखती है। "आज सिस्टम से गलती हो गई," वह कहती है। "बगल के केबिन में एक बर्थ ख़ाली है।"
Nikolai picks up his bag and thanks her.
निकोलाई अपना बैग उठाता है और उसे धन्यवाद देता है।
"Wait," Marta says. "You can stay." "I don't mind the top bunk."
"रुकिए," मार्ता कहती है। "आप यहीं रह सकते हैं।" "मुझे ऊपर की बर्थ से कोई दिक़्क़त नहीं है।"
Nikolai smiles and puts his bag down again. They talk about their trips over tea from the cart.

Marta travels to see her sister. Nikolai travels to a work meeting in the north.

The train rushes through dark fields outside the window. Marta climbs to the top bunk near midnight.
खिड़की के बाहर ट्रेन अँधेरे खेतों के बीच से तेज़ी से गुज़रती है। आधी रात के क़रीब मार्ता ऊपर की बर्थ पर चढ़ जाती है।
"Goodnight," she says. "Two tickets, one bunk, one good trip." Nikolai laughs. "Goodnight, roommate," he says.
"शुभ रात्रि," वह कहती है। "दो टिकट, एक बर्थ, एक अच्छा सफ़र।" निकोलाई हँस पड़ता है। "शुभ रात्रि, रूममेट," वह कहता है।
