Marisela's coffee maker stopped making hot coffee. Every cup came out barely warm. She tried it three mornings in a row.
A cafeteira de Marisela parou de fazer café quente. Cada xícara saía apenas mornazinha. Ela tentou por três manhãs seguidas.
She carried the machine to a repair shop downtown. A man behind the counter smiled at her. His name tag said Reggie.
Ela levou a máquina até uma assistência técnica no centro. Um homem atrás do balcão sorriu para ela. O crachá dele dizia Reggie.
"My coffee maker only makes warm coffee," Marisela said. "It worked fine last month."
"Minha cafeteira só faz café morno", disse Marisela. "No mês passado funcionava bem."
Reggie plugged in the machine and ran water through it. He watched the water come out slowly. "I see the problem," he said.
Reggie ligou a máquina na tomada e passou água por ela. Ele observou a água sair devagar. "Já vi o problema", disse ele.
"A small valve inside is blocked," Reggie explained. "The water does not heat up fully."
"Uma válvula pequena aí dentro está entupida", Reggie explicou. "A água não esquenta por completo."
He opened a small panel on the side. He cleaned the valve with a thin brush. Small bits of mineral came out.

"This happens after months of hard water," Reggie said. He rinsed the valve under the tap. Then he dried it with a cloth.

Reggie ran water through the machine again. Steam rose from the top this time. "Now it heats up properly," he said.

He made a fresh cup for her. Marisela took a careful sip. Her face lit up with surprise.

"That's hot!" she said happily. "Thank you very much, Reggie."

Reggie explained how to clean it every month. Marisela wrote a note on her phone. She paid the bill and picked up her machine.

She walked home with her clean coffee maker. The next morning, she made a fresh pot. The coffee came out hot and strong.
