Every morning, Dahlia stopped at the same coffee shop before work. She always ordered a small tea with honey. She sat at the corner table.
Toda manhã, Dahlia parava na mesma cafeteria antes do trabalho. Ela sempre pedia um chá pequeno com mel. Ela se sentava na mesa do canto.
A man came in most mornings too. He always ordered the same strange drink. It was coffee with a little cinnamon and no sugar. He usually sat near the window.
Um homem também entrava na maioria das manhãs. Ele sempre pedia a mesma bebida estranha. Era café com um pouco de canela e sem açúcar. Ele geralmente se sentava perto da janela.
For weeks, they nodded at each other but never spoke.
Durante semanas, eles se cumprimentavam com um aceno, mas nunca conversavam.
One rainy Tuesday, the corner table was taken. Dahlia looked around. The only free seat was across from the man by the window.
Numa terça-feira chuvosa, a mesa do canto estava ocupada. Dahlia olhou ao redor. O único lugar livre era em frente ao homem perto da janela.
"Is this seat free?" she asked.
"Este lugar está livre?", ela perguntou.
"Yes, please sit," he said. He smiled and moved his bag off the chair. "I'm Zane."
"Sim, sente-se", ele disse. Ele sorriu e tirou a bolsa da cadeira. "Eu sou o Zane."
"Dahlia," she said. She sat down and looked at his cup. "Coffee with cinnamon, right? I noticed it before."
"Dahlia", ela disse. Ela se sentou e olhou para o copo dele. "Café com canela, certo? Eu já tinha notado."
Zane laughed. "And you always get tea with honey," he said. "I noticed too."
Zane riu. "E você sempre pede chá com mel", ele disse. "Eu também notei."
They talked for twenty minutes about small, ordinary things.

When it was time to go, Zane asked, "Same time tomorrow?"
Na hora de ir embora, Zane perguntou: "Mesmo horário amanhã?"
"Same table, if it's free," Dahlia said with a smile.

The next morning, the corner table sat empty. Dahlia walked past it anyway. She sat by the window instead.
