Fabian helped at a small farm for children every Saturday. He fed the rabbits, cleaned the barn and answered questions. One sunny morning, he wore his favorite green hat. His grandfather gave it to him.
Ele dava comida aos coelhos, limpava o celeiro e respondia a perguntas. Numa manhã ensolarada, ele usava o seu chapéu verde favorito. Seu avô tinha dado o chapéu a ele.
About twenty children came to the farm that day. Fabian bent down to fill a water bucket. A brown goat walked up behind him. It took the hat in its mouth and ran across the field.
"Hey!" shouted Fabian. "That's my hat!"
"Ei!", gritou Fabian. "Esse é o meu chapéu!"
He ran after the goat. The goat ran around the big tree. It ran around the pig house. It ran through the group of children. The children laughed and shouted. Some cheered for Fabian, and some cheered for the goat.
As crianças riam e gritavam.
Fabian tripped on a bucket and fell into the straw. He sat there and tried to breathe. The goat stood far away and chewed the hat.
A cabra ficou longe, mastigando o chapéu.
Then Fabian had an idea. He took a carrot from the rabbit food in his pocket. He sat on the grass and held it out. He did not move.
The goat stopped. It looked at the carrot, and it looked at Fabian. Then it walked slowly to him. It dropped the hat and took the carrot.
A cabra parou. Olhou para a cenoura e olhou para Fabian. Depois caminhou devagar até ele. Largou o chapéu e pegou a cenoura.
Fabian picked up the hat. There was a big hole in the top.
Fabian pegou o chapéu. Havia um grande buraco no alto.
"It looks terrible," said a small boy.
"Está horrível", disse um menino pequeno.
"It looks fine," said Fabian. He put it on anyway. Some of his hair came out of the hole. Then he went back to the rabbits.
"Está ótimo", disse Fabian. Ele o colocou mesmo assim. Um pouco do cabelo saiu pelo buraco. Depois voltou para os coelhos.
