The Shortcut to the Airport

Lena jumps into a taxi outside her hotel. "The airport, please. My flight leaves soon," she says.

Lena sube a un taxi afuera de su hotel. «Al aeropuerto, por favor. Mi vuelo sale pronto», dice ella.

The driver, Ibrahim, looks at the clock and nods. He pulls out into the busy street.

El conductor, Ibrahim, mira el reloj y asiente. Se incorpora a la calle concurrida.

Cars sit still in a long line ahead. "An accident up there," Ibrahim says, and points.

Los autos están detenidos en una larga fila más adelante. «Hubo un accidente allá arriba», dice Ibrahim, y señala.

Lena checks her watch. She feels worried. "Is there another way?" she asks.

Lena mira su reloj. Se siente preocupada. «¿Hay otro camino?», pregunta ella.

Ibrahim turns the wheel and takes a side street. He drives past a market and a small park. The streets here are quiet and empty.

Ibrahim gira el volante y toma una calle secundaria. Pasa junto a un mercado y un pequeño parque. Las calles aquí están tranquilas y vacías.

"This way has no traffic," he says. Lena watches the buildings pass by the window.

«Por aquí no hay tráfico», dice él. Lena observa los edificios pasar por la ventana.

Ibrahim turns again onto a road near the river. The airport signs appear ahead of them.

Ibrahim gira de nuevo hacia una calle cerca del río. Las señales del aeropuerto aparecen frente a ellos.

He pulls up outside the departures door. "Thank you very much," Lena says, and pays him.

Se detiene frente a la puerta de salidas. «Muchas gracias», dice Lena, y le paga.

She grabs her bag and runs toward the doors. Ibrahim waves and drives off to find another passenger.

Ella toma su bolso y corre hacia las puertas. Ibrahim la saluda con la mano y se va a buscar otro pasajero.

Lena arrives at the gate right on time. She shows her ticket and steps onto the plane.

Lena llega a la puerta de abordaje justo a tiempo. Muestra su boleto y sube al avión.
