The Flowers With No Card

Boone finds a bunch of flowers on his doorstep one morning. There is no card and no name.

He asks his neighbor Soleil if she saw anyone. Soleil is good at noticing small details.

"I saw a delivery van around seven," Soleil says. "But I didn't see who rang your bell."

Boone checks the flowers for any clue. He finds a small shop sticker on the wrapping paper.

"The sticker says 'Corner Blooms,'" he says. "That shop is on Fifth Street."

Soleil offers to help him find out who sent the flowers. "Let's walk over and ask," she says.

At the shop, a worker checks the order book. "These went to house number 12 this morning," she says.

"That's my house," Boone says. "But who paid for them?"

The worker looks closer. "The name is hard to read. Let me check the computer," she says.

She checks the computer and smiles. "Your sister ordered these. She says happy birthday."

Boone laughs and slaps his forehead. "I completely forgot my own birthday," he says.

Soleil laughs too. "Well, your sister didn't forget," she says. "Let's get a coffee to celebrate."

They leave the shop together. Boone carries the flowers all the way home.
