The Rainy Picnic

Ruby and Milo plan a picnic in the park on Saturday. They pack sandwiches, fruit, and cold drinks in a basket. The sky is blue when they leave home.

Ruby e Milo planejam um piquenique no parque no sábado. Eles arrumam sanduíches, frutas e bebidas geladas numa cesta. O céu está azul quando eles saem de casa.

They spread a blanket under a big tree. They set out the food and sit down to eat. After a few minutes, the sky turns gray.

Eles estendem uma manta debaixo de uma árvore grande. Colocam a comida e se sentam para comer. Depois de alguns minutos, o céu fica cinza.

"I think it's going to rain," Milo says. He looks up at the dark clouds.

"Acho que vai chover", Milo diz. Ele olha para as nuvens escuras.

"Let's wait a little," Ruby says. "Maybe it will pass."

"Vamos esperar um pouco", Ruby diz. "Talvez passe."

But the rain starts fast. Big drops fall on their sandwiches. The wind pushes their napkins across the grass.

Mas a chuva começa rápido. Gotas grandes caem nos sanduíches deles. O vento empurra os guardanapos pela grama.

"We need a new plan," Ruby says. She grabs the basket and the blanket. "Let's go to my house. It's close by."

"Precisamos de um novo plano", Ruby diz. Ela pega a cesta e a manta. "Vamos para a minha casa. É pertinho."

They run through the rain and laugh at the puddles. By the time they reach the house, they are both very wet.

Eles correm na chuva e riem das poças d'água. Quando chegam na casa, os dois estão bem molhados.

Ruby's mother opens the door. "Come in, come in!" she says. "Look at you two!"

A mãe de Ruby abre a porta. "Entrem, entrem!", ela diz. "Olhem só vocês dois!"

They dry off with towels. Then they spread the blanket on the living room floor. Ruby turns on some music, and Milo opens the basket again.

Eles se secam com toalhas. Depois estendem a manta no chão da sala. Ruby coloca uma música, e Milo abre a cesta de novo.

"This isn't so bad," Milo says, biting into a sandwich.

"Isso não está tão ruim", Milo diz, mordendo um sanduíche.

Ruby laughs and looks out the window at the rain. "We still have a picnic," she says. "Just an indoor one now."

Ruby ri e olha pela janela para a chuva. "A gente ainda está de piquenique", ela diz. "Só que agora é dentro de casa."

They eat, talk, and watch the rain fall against the glass. Outside, the storm continues, but inside, they finish their picnic together.

Eles comem, conversam e observam a chuva caindo no vidro. Lá fora, a tempestade continua, mas lá dentro, eles terminam o piquenique juntos.
