The Rainy Picnic

Ruby and Milo plan a picnic in the park on Saturday. They pack sandwiches, fruit, and cold drinks in a basket. The sky is blue when they leave home.

Ruby y Milo planean un picnic en el parque el sábado. Empacan sándwiches, fruta y bebidas frías en una canasta. El cielo está azul cuando salen de casa.

They spread a blanket under a big tree. They set out the food and sit down to eat. After a few minutes, the sky turns gray.

Extienden una manta bajo un árbol grande. Sacan la comida y se sientan a comer. Después de unos minutos, el cielo se pone gris.

"I think it's going to rain," Milo says. He looks up at the dark clouds.

«Creo que va a llover», dice Milo. Mira hacia las nubes oscuras.

"Let's wait a little," Ruby says. "Maybe it will pass."

«Esperemos un poco», dice Ruby. «Tal vez pase».

But the rain starts fast. Big drops fall on their sandwiches. The wind pushes their napkins across the grass.

Pero la lluvia empieza rápido. Gotas grandes caen sobre sus sándwiches. El viento empuja sus servilletas por el pasto.

"We need a new plan," Ruby says. She grabs the basket and the blanket. "Let's go to my house. It's close by."

«Necesitamos un nuevo plan», dice Ruby. Toma la canasta y la manta. «Vamos a mi casa. Está cerca».

They run through the rain and laugh at the puddles. By the time they reach the house, they are both very wet.

Ruby's mother opens the door. "Come in, come in!" she says. "Look at you two!"

They dry off with towels. Then they spread the blanket on the living room floor. Ruby turns on some music, and Milo opens the basket again.

Se secan con toallas. Luego extienden la manta en el piso de la sala. Ruby pone música, y Milo abre la canasta otra vez.

"This isn't so bad," Milo says, biting into a sandwich.

«Esto no está tan mal», dice Milo, mordiendo un sándwich.

Ruby laughs and looks out the window at the rain. "We still have a picnic," she says. "Just an indoor one now."

Ruby se ríe y mira por la ventana hacia la lluvia. «Todavía tenemos un picnic», dice. «Solo que ahora es uno bajo techo».

They eat, talk, and watch the rain fall against the glass. Outside, the storm continues, but inside, they finish their picnic together.

Comen, hablan y observan la lluvia caer contra el vidrio. Afuera, la tormenta continúa, pero adentro, terminan su picnic juntos.
