Clara invited two new friends to dinner on Saturday. She wanted a good meal. Her plan was easy: pasta with cream sauce.
Clara convidou dois novos amigos para jantar no sábado. Queria uma boa refeição. O plano dela era simples: macarrão com molho de creme.
On Thursday, Odin sent her a message. "I cannot eat wheat," he wrote. "It makes me sick. Sorry!"
Na quinta-feira, Odin mandou uma mensagem. "Não posso comer trigo", escreveu. "Me deixa doente. Desculpa!"
On Friday, Olivier called. "I cannot have milk or cream," he said. "I'm sorry to be difficult."
Na sexta, Olivier ligou. "Não posso comer leite nem creme", disse. "Desculpe dar trabalho."
"No, no, it's fine," Clara said.
"Imagina, tudo bem", disse Clara.
She put down the phone and looked at her list. Pasta has wheat. Cream is milk. Her dinner was wrong for both guests. She had one day to change it.
Ela largou o telefone e olhou a lista. Macarrão tem trigo. Creme é leite. O jantar dela estava errado para os dois convidados. Ela tinha um dia para mudá-lo.
Clara did not panic. She went to the market. She bought rice, chicken, carrots, peppers, and green beans. She also bought a lemon.
Clara não entrou em pânico. Foi ao mercado. Comprou arroz, frango, cenouras, pimentões e vagem. Também comprou um limão.
That night, she cooked a small plate for herself. She fried the chicken in oil with garlic. Then she added the rice and the vegetables. At the end, she put lemon on top. It tasted great. She was happy with her new plan.
Naquela noite, cozinhou um pratinho para si mesma. Fritou o frango no óleo com alho. Depois acrescentou o arroz e os legumes. No final, pôs limão por cima. Ficou ótimo. Ela ficou feliz com o novo plano.
On Saturday, Odin and Olivier came at seven. The table looked pretty, with candles and a green plant. Clara told them about her first plan, and they laughed.
No sábado, Odin e Olivier chegaram às sete. A mesa estava linda, com velas e uma planta verde. Clara contou o primeiro plano, e eles riram.
"This smells wonderful," Odin said.
"Que cheiro maravilhoso", disse Odin.
They ate every bit. Then Olivier put down his fork. "Can I have the recipe?"
Comeram até o último pedaço. Então Olivier pousou o garfo. "Posso ficar com a receita?"
"Me too," said Odin.
"Eu também", disse Odin.
Clara smiled. She took two pieces of paper and began to write.
Clara sorriu. Pegou duas folhas de papel e começou a escrever.
