The Passport in the Wrong Pocket

Reza stood in the long line at border control. He just landed after a long flight.

Reza berdiri dalam antrean panjang di pemeriksaan perbatasan. Ia baru saja mendarat setelah penerbangan yang panjang.

He reached into his jacket for his passport. His hand found nothing but a pen.

Ia merogoh jaketnya untuk mengambil paspor. Tangannya hanya menemukan sebuah pena.

Reza checked his other pocket, then his bag. He did not find the passport anywhere.

Reza memeriksa saku yang lain, lalu tasnya. Paspor itu tidak ada di mana pun.

The line behind him grew every minute. An officer waved him toward an empty desk.

Antrean di belakangnya bertambah panjang setiap menit. Seorang petugas melambaikan tangan, menyuruhnya ke meja yang kosong.

"Passport, please," the officer said.

"Paspor, silakan," kata petugas itu.

"I can't find it," Reza said quietly.

"Saya tidak bisa menemukannya," kata Reza pelan.

He put his bag down and opened it fully. He searched through papers, snacks, and a phone charger.

Ia meletakkan tasnya dan membukanya lebar-lebar. Ia mencari di antara kertas, camilan, dan pengisi daya ponsel.

Deep in a side pocket, his fingers touched paper. He pulled out his passport, folded inside a map.

Jauh di dalam saku samping, jarinya menyentuh kertas. Ia menarik keluar paspornya, terlipat di dalam sebuah peta.

"Here it is," Reza said.

"Ini dia," kata Reza.

The officer looked at the passport and stamped it. "Welcome," the officer said, and smiled.

Petugas itu memeriksa paspor tersebut dan mencapnya. "Selamat datang," kata petugas itu sambil tersenyum.

Reza zipped his bag shut and picked it up. He walked through the gate and into the terminal. He put the passport in his front pocket this time.

Reza menutup resleting tasnya dan mengangkatnya. Ia berjalan melewati gerbang menuju terminal. Kali ini ia menaruh paspornya di saku depan.
