The Passport in the Wrong Pocket

Reza cannot find his passport at border control and searches his whole bag before finding it tucked inside a map.
Reza stood in the long line at border control. He just landed after a long flight. He reached into his jacket for his passport. His hand found nothing but a pen. Reza checked his other pocket, then his bag. He did not find the passport anywhere. The line behind him grew every minute. An officer waved him toward an empty desk. "Passport, please," the officer said. "I can't find it," Reza said quietly. He put his bag down and opened it fully. He searched through papers, snacks, and a phone charger. Deep in a side pocket, his fingers touched paper. He pulled out his passport, folded inside a map. "Here it is," Reza said. The officer looked at the passport and stamped it. "Welcome," the officer said, and smiled. Reza zipped his bag shut and picked it up. He walked through the gate and into the terminal. He put the passport in his front pocket this time.
