Two Bands, One Evening

Bruna and her band arrive at the Blue Door café at six. They carry a drum, two guitars and a keyboard. But on the small stage, another band sets up its things.

ब्रूना और उसका बैंड छह बजे ब्लू डोर कैफ़े पहुँचते हैं। उनके पास एक ड्रम, दो गिटार और एक कीबोर्ड है। लेकिन छोटे मंच पर एक और बैंड अपना सामान लगा रहा है।

"Excuse me," Bruna says. "We play here tonight."

"माफ़ कीजिए," ब्रूना कहती है। "आज रात हम यहाँ बजाते हैं।"

A woman with a red guitar shakes her head. "No, we play here tonight," she says. "My name is Nena."

लाल गिटार वाली एक महिला सिर हिलाती है। "नहीं, आज रात हम यहाँ बजाते हैं," वह कहती है। "मेरा नाम नेना है।"

They call the owner. He comes out of the kitchen with his big book. He looks at one page for a long time. "Oh no," he says. "I wrote both bands for the same evening. It is my mistake."

वे मालिक को बुलाते हैं। वह अपनी बड़ी किताब लेकर रसोई से बाहर आता है। वह बहुत देर तक एक पन्ना देखता रहता है। "अरे नहीं," वह कहता है। "मैंने दोनों बैंड एक ही शाम के लिए लिख दिए। यह मेरी ग़लती है।"

The two bands argue a little. The drummer says his band came first. Nena says her band wrote to the café first. Nobody wants to go home.

दोनों बैंड थोड़ी बहस करते हैं। ड्रमर कहता है कि उसका बैंड पहले आया था। नेना कहती है कि उसके बैंड ने कैफ़े को पहले लिखा था। कोई भी घर नहीं जाना चाहता।

Then the door opens, and people come in. They sit down and look at the stage. They are ready for music.

फिर दरवाज़ा खुलता है और लोग अंदर आने लगते हैं। वे बैठ जाते हैं और मंच की ओर देखते हैं। वे संगीत सुनने के लिए तैयार हैं।

"We cannot send them away," Bruna says. "What if we play together?"

"हम इन्हें वापस नहीं भेज सकते," ब्रूना कहती है। "अगर हम साथ बजाएँ तो?"

Nena thinks. "My band plays fast songs. You play slow songs."

नेना सोचती है। "मेरा बैंड तेज़ गाने बजाता है। तुम लोग धीमे गाने बजाते हो।"

"Then we take turns," Bruna says. "And at the end, we mix them."

"तो हम बारी-बारी से बजाते हैं," ब्रूना कहती है। "और आख़िर में हम उन्हें मिला देते हैं।"

They start with a slow song and a very fast drum. It sounds strange, but the people clap. Soon both singers sing the same song. Both guitars play the same part. The owner brings free drinks for everyone.

वे एक धीमे गाने और बहुत तेज़ ड्रम से शुरू करते हैं। यह अजीब लगता है, लेकिन लोग तालियाँ बजाते हैं। जल्दी ही दोनों गायिकाएँ एक ही गाना गाने लगती हैं। दोनों गिटार एक ही धुन बजाते हैं। मालिक सबके लिए मुफ़्त ड्रिंक लेकर आता है।

After the last song, a man calls, "What is your band's name?"

आख़िरी गाने के बाद एक आदमी पुकारता है, "आपके बैंड का नाम क्या है?"

Bruna looks at Nena and laughs. "We need a new one."

ब्रूना नेना की ओर देखकर हँसती है। "हमें एक नया नाम चाहिए।"
