Two Bands, One Evening

Bruna and her band arrive at the Blue Door café at six. They carry a drum, two guitars and a keyboard. But on the small stage, another band sets up its things.

Bruna y su banda llegan al café Blue Door a las seis. Llevan una batería, dos guitarras y un teclado. Pero en el pequeño escenario, otra banda está instalando sus cosas.

"Excuse me," Bruna says. "We play here tonight."

«Disculpen», dice Bruna. «Nosotros tocamos aquí esta noche».

A woman with a red guitar shakes her head. "No, we play here tonight," she says. "My name is Nena."

Una mujer con una guitarra roja niega con la cabeza. «No, nosotros tocamos aquí esta noche», dice. «Me llamo Nena».

They call the owner. He comes out of the kitchen with his big book. He looks at one page for a long time. "Oh no," he says. "I wrote both bands for the same evening. It is my mistake."

Llaman al dueño. Sale de la cocina con su libro grande. Mira una página durante mucho tiempo. «Ay, no», dice. «Anoté a las dos bandas para la misma noche. Es mi error».

The two bands argue a little. The drummer says his band came first. Nena says her band wrote to the café first. Nobody wants to go home.

Las dos bandas discuten un poco. El baterista dice que su banda llegó primero. Nena dice que su banda le escribió primero al café. Nadie quiere irse a casa.

Then the door opens, and people come in. They sit down and look at the stage. They are ready for music.

Entonces se abre la puerta y entra gente. Se sientan y miran el escenario. Están listos para la música.

"We cannot send them away," Bruna says. "What if we play together?"

«No podemos mandarlos a casa», dice Bruna. «¿Y si tocamos juntos?».

Nena thinks. "My band plays fast songs. You play slow songs."

Nena piensa. «Mi banda toca canciones rápidas. Ustedes tocan canciones lentas».

"Then we take turns," Bruna says. "And at the end, we mix them."

«Entonces nos turnamos», dice Bruna. «Y al final, las mezclamos».

They start with a slow song and a very fast drum. It sounds strange, but the people clap. Soon both singers sing the same song. Both guitars play the same part. The owner brings free drinks for everyone.

Empiezan con una canción lenta y una batería muy rápida. Suena raro, pero la gente aplaude. Pronto los dos cantantes cantan la misma canción. Las dos guitarras tocan la misma parte. El dueño trae bebidas gratis para todos.

After the last song, a man calls, "What is your band's name?"

Después de la última canción, un hombre grita: «¿Cómo se llama su banda?».

Bruna looks at Nena and laughs. "We need a new one."

Bruna mira a Nena y ríe. «Necesitamos un nombre nuevo».
