Tom lived alone in a small house. He liked his house neat and quiet. One night, he heard a strange sound.
टॉम एक छोटे-से घर में अकेला रहता था। उसे अपना घर साफ़-सुथरा और शांत पसंद था। एक रात उसने एक अजीब आवाज़ सुनी।
He got out of bed slowly. He walked to the kitchen in the dark. The sound got louder near the sink.
वह धीरे-धीरे बिस्तर से उठा। अँधेरे में चलकर रसोई तक गया। सिंक के पास आवाज़ और तेज़ हो गई।
A drip fell from the kitchen faucet. It went drip, drip, drip all night. The kitchen faucet leaked again.
रसोई के नल से एक बूँद गिरी। पूरी रात टप, टप, टप होता रहा। रसोई का नल फिर से टपक रहा था।
Tom put a bowl under the drip. He went back to bed. He could not sleep well. In the morning, he looked at it closely.
टॉम ने टपकती बूँदों के नीचे एक कटोरा रख दिया। वह वापस बिस्तर पर चला गया। उसे ठीक से नींद नहीं आई। सुबह उसने नल को ध्यान से देखा।
Water dripped from a small rubber part inside. Tom did not know the name of the part. He decided to ask someone at the store.
अंदर एक छोटे रबर के पुर्ज़े से पानी टपक रहा था। टॉम को उस पुर्ज़े का नाम नहीं पता था। उसने तय किया कि वह दुकान पर किसी से पूछेगा।
Tom drove to the hardware store nearby. He showed the old part to the clerk. "You need a new washer," the clerk said. Tom bought one and a small wrench.
टॉम गाड़ी चलाकर पास की हार्डवेयर की दुकान पर गया। उसने पुराना पुर्ज़ा दुकानदार को दिखाया। "आपको नया वॉशर चाहिए," दुकानदार ने कहा। टॉम ने एक वॉशर और एक छोटा पाना ख़रीद लिया।
Back home, he turned off the water first. He took the faucet apart slowly. He removed the old, worn washer. He put the new washer in its place.
घर लौटकर उसने सबसे पहले पानी बंद किया। उसने नल को धीरे-धीरे खोला। उसने पुराना, घिसा हुआ वॉशर निकाल दिया। उसकी जगह नया वॉशर लगा दिया।
Tom turned the water back on. He waited and watched the faucet closely. No drip came from the tap.
टॉम ने पानी फिर से चालू किया। वह रुककर नल को ध्यान से देखता रहा। टोंटी से कोई बूँद नहीं गिरी।
Tom smiled and dried his hands. He put his tools back in the drawer. He made a cup of tea and sat down. The kitchen was finally quiet again.
टॉम मुस्कुराया और उसने अपने हाथ पोंछ लिए। उसने औज़ार वापस दराज़ में रख दिए। उसने एक कप चाय बनाई और बैठ गया। रसोई आख़िरकार फिर से शांत थी।
