Rafael worked at the shop for two years. He always closes carefully every night. Tonight felt different from the start.
राफ़ेल दो साल से दुकान में काम कर रहा था। वह हर रात बड़ी सावधानी से दुकान बंद करता था। आज की रात शुरू से ही कुछ अलग लगी।
Rafael counted the cash drawer at closing time. The number was five dollars short. He counted it a second time.
बंद करने के समय राफ़ेल ने कैश ड्रॉअर गिना। रकम पाँच डॉलर कम थी। उसने उसे दूसरी बार गिना।
The number stayed the same. Rafael felt worried. He did not want to blame anyone.
रकम वही रही। राफ़ेल को चिंता होने लगी। वह किसी पर इल्ज़ाम नहीं लगाना चाहता था।
He opened the day's receipts on the screen. He checked each sale one by one. Most transactions matched perfectly.
उसने स्क्रीन पर दिन की रसीदें खोलीं। उसने एक-एक बिक्री की जाँच की। ज़्यादातर लेन-देन बिल्कुल ठीक मिले।
Then he found something strange. One return appeared twice on the list. The same shirt, the same time, the same price.
फिर उसे कुछ अजीब दिखा। एक रिटर्न सूची में दो बार दिख रहा था। वही शर्ट, वही समय, वही दाम।
Rafael checked the return slips in the drawer. Only one paper return slip sat there. Somebody entered it twice by mistake.
राफ़ेल ने ड्रॉअर में रखी रिटर्न पर्चियाँ देखीं। वहाँ काग़ज़ की सिर्फ़ एक ही रिटर्न पर्ची रखी थी। किसी ने ग़लती से उसे दो बार दर्ज कर दिया था।
He called his manager over to the counter. "I found the problem," Rafael said. "A return got entered two times."
उसने अपनी मैनेजर को काउंटर पर बुलाया। "मुझे गड़बड़ी मिल गई," राफ़ेल ने कहा। "एक रिटर्न दो बार दर्ज हो गया।"
His manager checked the screen carefully. "You're right," she said. "That explains the missing five dollars."
उसकी मैनेजर ने स्क्रीन ध्यान से देखी। "तुम सही हो," उन्होंने कहा। "इसी से पाँच डॉलर कम निकले थे।"
She fixed the mistake and printed a new report. "Great job finding this," she said. Rafael felt relieved and locked the register.

He walked out to his car and smiled.
