The Stranger at the Party

Bo goes to his friend's birthday party on Friday. The house is loud and full of people. He knows almost everyone in the room.

Bo va a la fiesta de cumpleaños de su amigo el viernes. La casa está ruidosa y llena de gente. Él conoce a casi todos los que están en la sala.

Near the snack table, he notices a girl standing alone. She holds a cup and looks at her phone. Nobody talks to her.

Cerca de la mesa de bocadillos, nota a una chica parada sola. Ella sostiene un vaso y mira su teléfono. Nadie le habla.

Bo walks over with a friendly smile. "Hi, I'm Bo," he says. "Do you like the party?"

Bo se acerca con una sonrisa amistosa. «Hola, soy Bo», dice. «¿Te está gustando la fiesta?»

The girl looks up, a little surprised. "Not really," she admits. "I'm Nella. I don't know anyone here."

La chica levanta la vista, un poco sorprendida. «No mucho», admite. «Soy Nella. No conozco a nadie aquí».

"I know almost everyone," Bo says. "Let me introduce you around." Nella smiles for the first time.

«Yo conozco a casi todos», dice Bo. «Déjame presentarte a la gente». Nella sonríe por primera vez.

He brings her to his group of friends. They sit together by the couch. They make room for her right away. Someone hands her a slice of pizza.

Él la lleva a su grupo de amigos. Se sientan juntos junto al sofá. Le hacen espacio de inmediato. Alguien le pasa una porción de pizza.

Nella asks questions about the birthday girl. Bo tells her a funny story from last year. The whole group laughs together.

Nella hace preguntas sobre la chica del cumpleaños. Bo le cuenta una historia graciosa del año pasado. Todo el grupo se ríe junto.

An hour later, Nella talks and laughs with everyone. She tells a joke of her own. The group laughs a lot.

Una hora después, Nella habla y se ríe con todos. Ella cuenta un chiste propio. El grupo se ríe mucho.

Near the end of the night, Bo finds Nella. She stands by the door. "Thanks for talking to me first," she says. "I had a good time tonight."

Cerca del final de la noche, Bo encuentra a Nella. Ella está parada junto a la puerta. «Gracias por hablarme primero», dice. «La pasé muy bien esta noche».

"Same time next week?" Bo asks. Nella laughs and nods. "I bring the pizza next time," she says.

«¿Lo mismo la próxima semana?», pregunta Bo. Nella se ríe y asiente. «La próxima vez yo traigo la pizza», dice.

The next weekend, Bo texts Nella first. They meet at a different friend's party. This time, Nella already knows half the room.

El fin de semana siguiente, Bo le escribe a Nella primero. Se encuentran en la fiesta de otro amigo. Esta vez, Nella ya conoce a la mitad de la sala.
