Imogen wanted a small haircut before picture day. She walked into the salon after school. A stylist named Yusra greeted her.
Imogen quería un corte de pelo pequeño antes del día de las fotos. Entró a la peluquería después de la escuela. Una estilista llamada Yusra la saludó.
"How much do you want off?" Yusra asked. Imogen held up two fingers. "Just two inches," she said.
«¿Cuánto quieres que te corte?», preguntó Yusra. Imogen levantó dos dedos. «Solo dos pulgadas», dijo.
Yusra looked at the length again. "Two inches, or two centimeters?" she asked. Imogen paused and thought about it.
Yusra miró el largo otra vez. «¿Dos pulgadas o dos centímetros?», preguntó. Imogen se detuvo a pensarlo.
"I mean two inches," Imogen said. "Not too short." Yusra nodded and marked the spot with her comb.
«Digo dos pulgadas», dijo Imogen. «No muy corto». Yusra asintió y marcó el punto con su peine.
"I always ask twice," Yusra said. "Some people mean centimeters." She measured the hair with a small ruler.
«Siempre pregunto dos veces», dijo Yusra. «Algunas personas quieren decir centímetros». Midió el cabello con una pequeña regla.
Imogen watched in the mirror. Small pieces of hair fell to the floor. The cut looked neat and even.
Imogen miraba en el espejo. Pequeños mechones de cabello caían al piso. El corte se veía prolijo y parejo.
"All done," Yusra said at last. She turned the chair around slowly. Imogen touched her hair and smiled.
«Listo», dijo Yusra por fin. Giró la silla despacio. Imogen se tocó el cabello y sonrió.
"This is exactly right," Imogen said. She thanked Yusra and paid at the desk. She walked home with her new haircut. Her picture day was now two days away.
«Es exactamente lo que quería», dijo Imogen. Le dio las gracias a Yusra y pagó en el mostrador. Caminó a casa con su nuevo corte de pelo. Su día de fotos ya estaba a solo dos días.
