The Haircut Length Check

Imogen wanted a small haircut before picture day. She walked into the salon after school. A stylist named Yusra greeted her.

इमोजन पिक्चर डे से पहले थोड़े-से बाल कटवाना चाहती थी। स्कूल के बाद वह सैलून में गई। यूसरा नाम की एक स्टाइलिस्ट ने उसका स्वागत किया।

"How much do you want off?" Yusra asked. Imogen held up two fingers. "Just two inches," she said.

"कितने काटने हैं?" यूसरा ने पूछा। इमोजन ने दो उँगलियाँ उठाईं। "बस दो इंच," उसने कहा।

Yusra looked at the length again. "Two inches, or two centimeters?" she asked. Imogen paused and thought about it.

यूसरा ने लंबाई को फिर से देखा। "दो इंच या दो सेंटीमीटर?" उसने पूछा। इमोजन रुकी और सोचने लगी।

"I mean two inches," Imogen said. "Not too short." Yusra nodded and marked the spot with her comb.

"मेरा मतलब दो इंच है," इमोजन ने कहा। "ज़्यादा छोटे नहीं।" यूसरा ने सिर हिलाया और कंघी से वह जगह चिह्नित कर दी।

"I always ask twice," Yusra said. "Some people mean centimeters." She measured the hair with a small ruler.

"मैं हमेशा दो बार पूछती हूँ," यूसरा ने कहा। "कुछ लोगों का मतलब सेंटीमीटर होता है।" उसने एक छोटे स्केल से बालों को नापा।

Imogen watched in the mirror. Small pieces of hair fell to the floor. The cut looked neat and even.

इमोजन शीशे में देखती रही। बालों के छोटे-छोटे टुकड़े फ़र्श पर गिर रहे थे। कटिंग साफ़-सुथरी और बराबर दिख रही थी।

"All done," Yusra said at last. She turned the chair around slowly. Imogen touched her hair and smiled.

"हो गया," यूसरा ने आख़िर में कहा। उसने कुर्सी को धीरे से घुमाया। इमोजन ने अपने बालों को छुआ और मुस्कुराई।

"This is exactly right," Imogen said. She thanked Yusra and paid at the desk. She walked home with her new haircut. Her picture day was now two days away.

"बिल्कुल सही है," इमोजन ने कहा। उसने यूसरा को धन्यवाद दिया और डेस्क पर पैसे दिए। वह अपने नए हेयरकट के साथ पैदल घर गई। उसका पिक्चर डे अब दो दिन दूर था।
