The Squeaky Door

Sami's bedroom door squeaked constantly. Opening it made a loud noise. Closing it made a loud noise too.

A porta do quarto de Sami rangia constantemente. Abri-la fazia um barulho alto. Fechá-la também fazia um barulho alto.

At night, the noise woke up his little sister. She complained about it every morning. Sami felt bad about the noise.

À noite, o barulho acordava sua irmãzinha. Ela reclamava disso todas as manhãs. Sami se sentia mal com o barulho.

Sami wanted to fix the problem. He did not know how to start. He asked his father what to do.

Sami queria resolver o problema. Ele não sabia como começar. Ele perguntou ao pai o que fazer.

"Try some oil on the hinges," his father said. Sami looked in the garage for oil. He found an old oil can there.

"Tente passar óleo nas dobradiças", disse o pai dele. Sami procurou óleo na garagem. Ele encontrou uma lata de óleo velha lá.

He opened his door very slowly. He put a few drops on each hinge. He moved the door back and forth gently.

Ele abriu a porta bem devagar. Ele colocou algumas gotas em cada dobradiça. Ele moveu a porta para frente e para trás gentilmente.

The oil worked into the metal parts. Sami wiped off the extra drops. He tried the door one more time.

O óleo penetrou nas partes de metal. Sami limpou o excesso de gotas. Ele testou a porta mais uma vez.

Sami opened and closed the door again. This time, there was no sound at all. He grinned at his quiet door.

Sami abriu e fechou a porta de novo. Desta vez, não houve nenhum som. Ele sorriu para sua porta silenciosa.

His little sister walked by and stopped. "It's quiet now," she said, surprised. She thanked him with a big smile.

Sua irmãzinha passou e parou. "Está quieta agora", ela disse, surpresa. Ela agradeceu a ele com um grande sorriso.

Sami smiled and oiled the other doors too. Now the whole house was quiet. Everyone slept better that night.

Sami sorriu e passou óleo nas outras portas também. Agora a casa inteira estava silenciosa. Todos dormiram melhor naquela noite.
