The Rearranged Photos

Rina keeps family photos on a shelf in her hallway. She has six photos in silver frames.

Rina guarda fotos de família numa prateleira do corredor. Ela tem seis fotos em molduras prateadas.

She sees them every day before work. She knows their order well.

Ela as vê todos os dias antes do trabalho. Ela conhece bem a ordem delas.

One Monday, she stops and looks twice. The photos are in a different order.

Numa segunda-feira, ela para e olha duas vezes. As fotos estão em uma ordem diferente.

The wedding photo is now on the left. It is usually on the right.

A foto do casamento agora está à esquerda. Normalmente ela fica à direita.

Rina is surprised. She puts the photos back the way she likes them.

Rina fica surpresa. Ela coloca as fotos de volta do jeito que gosta.

On Wednesday, the same thing happens again. Two photos change places once more.

Na quarta-feira, a mesma coisa acontece de novo. Duas fotos trocam de lugar mais uma vez.

She checks the front door. It is locked, just like always. Nothing else in the house looks different.

Ela checa a porta da frente. Está trancada, como sempre. Nada mais na casa parece diferente.

That evening, her nephew Arlo comes to visit. He is eight years old and full of energy.

Naquela noite, o sobrinho dela, Arlo, vem visitá-la. Ele tem oito anos e é cheio de energia.

Rina watches him walk past the shelf. He stops and touches one of the frames.

Rina o observa passar pela prateleira. Ele para e toca em uma das molduras.

"I like moving them around," Arlo says. "I like this picture here."

"Eu gosto de trocar elas de lugar", Arlo diz. "Eu gosto dessa foto aqui."

Rina laughs and sits down next to him. "Next time, tell me first," she says. "I almost thought something strange happened here!"

Rina ri e senta ao lado dele. "Da próxima vez, me avisa antes", ela diz. "Eu quase achei que algo estranho tinha acontecido aqui!"
