Olu made sandwiches on Saturday morning. It was his second date with Kemi. He put the food in a basket. He took a blanket too.
Olu fez sanduíches no sábado de manhã. Era o segundo encontro dele com Kemi. Ele colocou a comida em uma cesta. Levou também uma manta.
They met at the park at noon. The sky was blue. They sat under a big tree. Kemi smiled at him. "This is nice," she said.
Eles se encontraram no parque ao meio-dia. O céu estava azul. Sentaram-se debaixo de uma árvore grande. Kemi sorriu para ele. "Isto é lindo", disse ela.
Olu opened the basket. He had cheese sandwiches and two apples. He also had a bottle of juice. Kemi took a sandwich and ate it. "It is very good," she said.
Olu abriu a cesta. Ele tinha sanduíches de queijo e duas maçãs. Tinha também uma garrafa de suco. Kemi pegou um sanduíche e comeu. "Está muito bom", disse ela.
Then a drop fell on his hand. Another drop fell on the blanket. Dark clouds came over the park.
Então uma gota caiu na mão dele. Outra gota caiu na manta. Nuvens escuras cobriram o parque.
The rain came fast. "Run!" Kemi said. They took the basket and the blanket. They ran to Olu's car. Both of them were wet. They laughed all the way.
A chuva veio rápido. "Corra!", disse Kemi. Eles pegaram a cesta e a manta. Correram até o carro de Olu. Os dois estavam molhados. Riram o caminho todo.
They sat in the car and shut the doors. Olu gave Kemi her sandwich again. The rain hit the roof. It sounded like small drums.
Eles se sentaram no carro e fecharam as portas. Olu deu o sanduíche a Kemi de novo. A chuva batia no teto. Parecia pequenos tambores.
They ate and listened. The park was grey outside. Kemi looked at the window for a long time.
Eles comeram e ouviram. O parque estava cinzento lá fora. Kemi olhou para a janela por um longo tempo.
"Is this a bad date?" Olu asked.
"Este é um encontro ruim?", perguntou Olu.
Kemi bit her sandwich and smiled. "No," she said. "Best picnic ever. Same car next week?"
Kemi mordeu o sanduíche e sorriu. "Não", disse ela. "O melhor piquenique de todos. O mesmo carro semana que vem?"
