On Saturday morning, a moving truck parked outside Briar's building. A new family carried boxes up the front steps all day. Briar watched from her window, curious about her new neighbors.
No sábado de manhã, um caminhão de mudança estacionou em frente ao prédio de Briar. Uma família nova carregou caixas pelos degraus da entrada o dia todo. Briar observava da janela, curiosa com os novos vizinhos.
By afternoon, Briar noticed a girl about her age. The girl struggled with a heavy box. The girl set the box down and rested for a moment.
No fim da tarde, Briar reparou em uma menina mais ou menos da sua idade. A menina lutava com uma caixa pesada. Ela colocou a caixa no chão e descansou por um momento.
Briar grabbed her shoes and ran downstairs. "Can I help you carry that?" she asked. "Yes, please," the girl said. "This box is really heavy."
Briar pegou os sapatos e desceu correndo. "Posso ajudar a carregar isso?", ela perguntou. "Sim, por favor", a menina disse. "Essa caixa é muito pesada."
"I'm Briar. I live right upstairs." "I'm Celeste," the girl said. "We just moved from another city."
"Eu sou a Briar. Moro bem ali em cima." "Eu sou a Celeste", a menina disse. "Acabamos de nos mudar de outra cidade."
They carried the box up three flights of stairs together. When they finished, both girls felt tired and happy.
Elas carregaram a caixa juntas por três lances de escada. Quando terminaram, as duas meninas se sentiram cansadas e felizes.
Celeste's mother thanked Briar warmly. "Thank you so much for your help," she said. Briar smiled and picked up another box from the truck.
A mãe de Celeste agradeceu a Briar com carinho. "Muito obrigada pela sua ajuda", ela disse. Briar sorriu e pegou outra caixa do caminhão.
That evening, all the boxes were finally inside. Celeste opened a pizza box on the living room floor. "Stay and eat with us," she said to Briar. "There's plenty for everyone."
Naquela noite, todas as caixas finalmente estavam dentro de casa. Celeste abriu uma caixa de pizza no chão da sala. "Fica para comer com a gente", ela disse a Briar. "Tem bastante para todo mundo."
Briar sat down on the floor with Celeste and her family. They ate pizza together, surrounded by unopened boxes.
Briar sentou no chão com Celeste e a família dela. Elas comeram pizza juntas, cercadas de caixas ainda fechadas.
