The Old Footbridge

Sena, Idris, and two friends hike along a forest trail on Sunday. The trail leads to an old wooden footbridge over a stream.

Sena, Idris, dan dua temannya mendaki jalur hutan pada hari Minggu. Jalur itu menuju sebuah jembatan kayu tua di atas sungai kecil.

The bridge is narrow and a little old. Some of the wood boards look weak.

Jembatan itu sempit dan agak tua. Beberapa papan kayunya tampak lemah.

Idris stops at the edge of the bridge. He doesn't move.

Idris berhenti di tepi jembatan. Ia tidak bergerak.

"I don't like this," Idris says quietly. "The boards look weak."

"Aku tidak suka ini," kata Idris pelan. "Papannya kelihatan lemah."

The other two friends cross first and wait on the other side. Sena stays back with Idris.

Kedua teman lainnya menyeberang lebih dulu dan menunggu di seberang. Sena tetap di belakang bersama Idris.

"Look at me," Sena says. "I'll go first, slowly. You watch my feet."

"Lihat aku," kata Sena. "Aku jalan duluan, pelan-pelan. Kamu perhatikan kakiku."

Sena steps onto the bridge carefully. The wood creaks but holds. She stops in the middle and turns around.

Sena melangkah ke jembatan dengan hati-hati. Kayunya berderit tetapi kuat menahan. Ia berhenti di tengah dan berbalik.

"See? It's fine," she says. "Just step where I stepped."

"Lihat? Tidak apa-apa," katanya. "Injak saja bagian yang tadi kuinjak."

Idris takes a deep breath and puts one foot on the bridge. He follows Sena's path, step by step.

Idris menarik napas dalam-dalam dan meletakkan satu kaki di jembatan. Ia mengikuti jalur Sena, selangkah demi selangkah.

Halfway across, he stops and looks down at the water. "Don't look down," Sena says. "Look at me."

Di tengah jembatan, ia berhenti dan menunduk menatap air. "Jangan lihat ke bawah," kata Sena. "Lihat aku."

Idris looks up and keeps walking. A minute later, he reaches the other side.

Idris mendongak dan terus berjalan. Semenit kemudian, ia sampai di seberang.

"You did it," Sena says. She smiles. "That wasn't so hard."

"Kamu berhasil," kata Sena. Ia tersenyum. "Tidak sesulit itu, kan."

"It was a little hard," Idris says. "But thank you for staying with me."

"Sedikit sulit juga," kata Idris. "Tapi terima kasih sudah menemaniku."
