The Deleted Photos

Blaise borrows his dad's camera for a school trip. He takes some good pictures of his friends. That evening, he sits on his bed. He wants to look at them.

Blaise meminjam kamera ayahnya untuk karyawisata sekolah. Ia mengambil beberapa foto bagus teman-temannya. Malam itu, ia duduk di tempat tidurnya. Ia ingin melihat foto-foto itu.

He presses a button, and the screen asks, "Delete all photos?" Blaise presses the wrong button. The screen goes dark. Then it says, "No photos."

Ia menekan sebuah tombol, dan layar bertanya, "Hapus semua foto?" Blaise menekan tombol yang salah. Layarnya menjadi gelap. Lalu muncul tulisan, "Tidak ada foto."

His hands feel cold. He looks at the camera again and again. The photos of his school trip are gone. The holiday photos from the beach are gone too. They show his mum on a boat. They show his little sister asleep in the sun. Now there is nothing.

Tangannya terasa dingin. Ia memandangi kamera itu berulang kali. Foto-foto karyawisata sekolahnya hilang. Foto-foto liburan di pantai juga hilang. Foto-foto itu memperlihatkan ibunya di atas perahu. Foto-foto itu memperlihatkan adik perempuannya tertidur di bawah matahari. Sekarang tidak ada apa-apa.

Blaise thinks of hiding the camera. He thinks of saying that it is broken. But that is not true, and he does not like lying.

Blaise berpikir untuk menyembunyikan kamera itu. Ia berpikir untuk mengatakan bahwa kamera itu rusak. Tetapi itu tidak benar, dan ia tidak suka berbohong.

He takes a deep breath and goes to the living room. His dad reads a book.

Ia menarik napas dalam-dalam dan pergi ke ruang tamu. Ayahnya sedang membaca buku.

"Dad, I have a big problem," Blaise says. "I deleted all the photos on your camera by mistake. The holiday photos too. I am very sorry."

"Ayah, aku punya masalah besar," kata Blaise. "Aku tidak sengaja menghapus semua foto di kamera Ayah. Foto-foto liburan juga. Aku sangat menyesal."

His dad is quiet for a moment. Then he puts down his book. "Thank you for telling me the truth," he says. "Come with me."

Ayahnya terdiam sejenak. Lalu ia meletakkan bukunya. "Terima kasih sudah jujur," katanya. "Ikut Ayah."

They go to the study, and his dad turns on the computer. He opens a folder. It is full of pictures from the beach.

Mereka pergi ke ruang kerja, dan ayahnya menyalakan komputer. Ia membuka sebuah folder. Folder itu penuh dengan foto-foto pantai.

"I saved them here last week," his dad says. "Nothing is lost."

"Ayah menyimpannya di sini minggu lalu," kata ayahnya. "Tidak ada yang hilang."

Blaise breathes out slowly. "Can you show me how to do it?"

Blaise menghela napas pelan. "Bisakah Ayah menunjukkan caranya padaku?"

"Of course. Give me the camera."

"Tentu. Berikan kameranya."
