The Water Table at the Race

On Saturday, Dina worked at a water table. The city had a fun run. Many people ran down the street.

शनिवार को दीना एक वॉटर टेबल पर काम कर रही थी। शहर में एक फ़न रन था। बहुत-से लोग सड़क पर दौड़ रहे थे।

Dina stood behind a long table. She had a big box of paper cups. She also had two big water tanks. She was a volunteer, and she liked the job.

दीना एक लंबी मेज़ के पीछे खड़ी थी। उसके पास काग़ज़ के कपों का एक बड़ा डिब्बा था। उसके पास पानी की दो बड़ी टंकियाँ भी थीं। वह एक स्वयंसेवक थी, और उसे यह काम पसंद था।

Her job was easy. She filled the cups and held them out. The first runners came at nine. They took the cups and said thanks.

उसका काम आसान था। वह कप भरती और आगे बढ़ा देती। पहले धावक नौ बजे आए। उन्होंने कप लिए और धन्यवाद कहा।

More and more runners came. Dina filled cups as fast as she could. Her hands got wet and cold.

और-और धावक आते गए। दीना जितनी तेज़ी से हो सके, कप भरती रही। उसके हाथ गीले और ठंडे हो गए।

At ten, she looked in the box. It was almost empty. Only ten cups were left. Many more runners were on the road.

दस बजे उसने डिब्बे में देखा। वह लगभग ख़ाली था। बस दस कप बचे थे। सड़क पर अभी बहुत-से धावक थे।

"We need more cups," she said to the other helper. He shook his head. "The store is far," he said.

"हमें और कप चाहिए," उसने दूसरे सहायक से कहा। उसने सिर हिलाया। "दुकान दूर है," उसने कहा।

Across the street, a shop owner stood at his door. He saw the empty box. "Do you need something?" he called.

सड़क के उस पार एक दुकानदार अपने दरवाज़े पर खड़ा था। उसने ख़ाली डिब्बा देखा। "क्या आपको कुछ चाहिए?" उसने पुकारकर पूछा।

"We have no cups," Dina said. "Wait there," he said. He went into his shop.

"हमारे पास कप नहीं हैं," दीना ने कहा। "वहीं रुकिए," उसने कहा। वह अपनी दुकान के अंदर चला गया।

He came back with two big boxes. Each box was full of small water bottles. "Take them," he said. "They are for the runners."

वह दो बड़े डिब्बे लेकर लौटा। हर डिब्बा पानी की छोटी बोतलों से भरा था। "ये लीजिए," उसने कहा। "ये धावकों के लिए हैं।"

Dina put the bottles on the table. The runners took them and gave a big wave. Dina waved back and held out more bottles.

दीना ने बोतलें मेज़ पर रख दीं। धावकों ने उन्हें उठाया और ज़ोर से हाथ हिलाया। दीना ने भी हाथ हिलाया और और बोतलें आगे बढ़ा दीं।
