The Lost Tourist

Renata walks through the old town square every morning. She knows every street and shop in the area. Today she sees a man near the fountain. He looks at his phone, then looks up, confused.

रेनाटा हर सुबह पुराने शहर के चौक से होकर गुज़रती है। वह इलाक़े की हर गली और हर दुकान को जानती है। आज उसे फ़व्वारे के पास एक आदमी दिखता है। वह अपने फ़ोन को देखता है, फिर उलझन में ऊपर देखता है।

"Excuse me," he says. "Can you help me? I can't find my hotel."

"माफ़ कीजिए," वह कहता है। "क्या आप मेरी मदद कर सकती हैं? मुझे अपना होटल नहीं मिल रहा।"

"Of course," Renata says. "What's the name of your hotel?"

"ज़रूर," रेनाटा कहती है। "आपके होटल का नाम क्या है?"

"The Riverside Inn," Tobias says. "I don't know the way from here."

"रिवरसाइड इन," टोबियास कहता है। "मुझे यहाँ से रास्ता नहीं पता।"

Renata smiles. "I know that hotel well. It's not far from here."

रेनाटा मुस्कुराती है। "मैं उस होटल को अच्छी तरह जानती हूँ। वह यहाँ से ज़्यादा दूर नहीं है।"

"Really? I walked around for twenty minutes," Tobias says.

"सच में? मैं बीस मिनट से घूम रहा हूँ," टोबियास कहता है।

"This town is easy to get lost in," Renata says. "The streets turn in strange ways."

"इस शहर में खो जाना आसान है," रेनाटा कहती है। "यहाँ की गलियाँ अजीब तरह से मुड़ती हैं।"

"I noticed that," Tobias says with a small laugh. "My phone map doesn't work well here."

"मैंने भी यही देखा," टोबियास हल्की हँसी के साथ कहता है। "मेरे फ़ोन का नक्शा यहाँ ठीक से काम नहीं करता।"

"Come with me," Renata says. "I walk past your hotel every day."

"मेरे साथ आइए," रेनाटा कहती है। "मैं रोज़ आपके होटल के सामने से गुज़रती हूँ।"

They walk together down a narrow street. Renata points to shops as they pass.

वे साथ-साथ एक तंग गली में चलते हैं। रेनाटा गुज़रते हुए दुकानों की ओर इशारा करती जाती है।

"That bakery makes the best bread in town," she says. "And that café has great coffee."

"वह बेकरी शहर की सबसे अच्छी ब्रेड बनाती है," वह कहती है। "और उस कैफ़े की कॉफ़ी बहुत बढ़िया है।"

Tobias listens carefully. "You know a lot about this town."

टोबियास ध्यान से सुनता है। "आप इस शहर के बारे में बहुत कुछ जानती हैं।"

"I grew up here," Renata says. "I know every corner of it."

"मैं यहीं बड़ी हुई हूँ," रेनाटा कहती है। "मैं इसका हर कोना जानती हूँ।"

After a few minutes, they reach a big blue building. Renata points to the door.

कुछ मिनट बाद वे एक बड़ी नीली इमारत तक पहुँचते हैं। रेनाटा दरवाज़े की ओर इशारा करती है।

"There it is," she says. "The Riverside Inn."

"वह रहा," वह कहती है। "रिवरसाइड इन।"

Tobias looks happy. "Thank you so much. I never find my way alone in new cities."

टोबियास ख़ुश दिखता है। "आपका बहुत-बहुत शुक्रिया। मुझे नए शहरों में अकेले कभी रास्ता नहीं मिलता।"

"You're welcome," Renata says. "Enjoy your stay in our town."

"कोई बात नहीं," रेनाटा कहती है। "हमारे शहर में आपका प्रवास अच्छा बीते।"

"I will," Tobias says. "Maybe I'll ask you for directions again tomorrow."

"ज़रूर बीतेगा," टोबियास कहता है। "हो सकता है कल मैं आपसे फिर रास्ता पूछूँ।"

Renata laughs. "Anytime. I'm always near this square."

रेनाटा हँसती है। "कभी भी। मैं हमेशा इसी चौक के पास रहती हूँ।"

She waves and walks on toward her office.

वह हाथ हिलाती है और अपने ऑफ़िस की ओर आगे बढ़ जाती है।
