Missing the Last Bus

Ethan stays at his friend Owen's house after school. They do homework together and talk. Ethan looks at the clock. It is almost ten o'clock.

स्कूल के बाद एथन अपने दोस्त ओवेन के घर रुकता है। वे साथ में होमवर्क करते हैं और बातें करते हैं। एथन घड़ी की ओर देखता है। लगभग दस बजने वाले हैं।

"I need to go home now," Ethan says. "My bus leaves soon."

"मुझे अब घर जाना होगा," एथन कहता है। "मेरी बस जल्दी ही छूटने वाली है।"

He says goodbye to Owen and runs down the stairs. He runs all the way to the bus stop. He looks down the street. No bus is there.

वह ओवेन को अलविदा कहता है और सीढ़ियों से दौड़कर नीचे उतरता है। वह पूरे रास्ते दौड़ता हुआ बस स्टॉप पर पहुँचता है। वह सड़क पर दूर तक देखता है। वहाँ कोई बस नहीं है।

Ethan checks the sign at the bus stop. The last bus left five minutes ago. He feels his phone in his pocket. He has no money for a taxi.

एथन बस स्टॉप का बोर्ड देखता है। आख़िरी बस पाँच मिनट पहले जा चुकी है। उसे अपनी जेब में फ़ोन महसूस होता है। उसके पास टैक्सी के लिए पैसे नहीं हैं।

Ethan thinks for a moment. He remembers the train station. It is not far from here. Trains run later than buses.

एथन एक पल सोचता है। उसे रेलवे स्टेशन याद आता है। वह यहाँ से ज़्यादा दूर नहीं है। ट्रेनें बसों से ज़्यादा देर तक चलती हैं।

He starts to walk fast toward the station. The streets are quiet and dark. He walks past the market and the small park. Finally, he sees the station lights.

वह तेज़ क़दमों से स्टेशन की ओर चल पड़ता है। सड़कें शांत और अँधेरी हैं। वह बाज़ार और छोटे पार्क के पास से गुज़रता है। आख़िरकार उसे स्टेशन की रोशनियाँ दिखाई देती हैं।

Ethan runs inside and looks at the board. One more train leaves in three minutes. He buys a ticket and runs to the platform. He gets on the train quickly.

एथन दौड़कर अंदर जाता है और बोर्ड देखता है। तीन मिनट में एक और ट्रेन छूटने वाली है। वह टिकट ख़रीदता है और दौड़कर प्लेटफ़ॉर्म पर पहुँचता है। वह जल्दी से ट्रेन में चढ़ जाता है।

The train takes him close to his house. He walks the last street alone. He opens his front door quietly.

ट्रेन उसे उसके घर के क़रीब पहुँचा देती है। वह आख़िरी गली अकेले पैदल पार करता है। वह चुपचाप अपने घर का दरवाज़ा खोलता है।

"There you are," says his mom. "I was getting worried."

"आ गए तुम," उसकी माँ कहती हैं। "मुझे चिंता होने लगी थी।"

"Sorry, Mom," Ethan says. "I missed my bus. I took the train instead."

"माफ़ करना, माँ," एथन कहता है। "मेरी बस छूट गई थी। मैं ट्रेन से आ गया।"

"Next time, call me," she says with a smile.

"अगली बार मुझे फ़ोन कर देना," वे मुस्कुराकर कहती हैं।

"I will," Ethan says. "I promise."

"ज़रूर करूँगा," एथन कहता है। "मैं वादा करता हूँ।"
