Paloma stands at the baggage belt for a long time. Bags go around and around. Her suitcase does not come.
Paloma espera junto a la cinta de equipaje durante mucho tiempo. Las maletas dan vueltas y vueltas. Su maleta no aparece.
She checks the number on her ticket again. Her suitcase is red with a yellow strap. No red suitcase comes out on the belt.
Revisa de nuevo el número en su boleto. Su maleta es roja con una correa amarilla. Ninguna maleta roja sale por la cinta.
Paloma walks to the airline desk near the exit. A worker named Jamal looks up and smiles.
Paloma camina hasta el mostrador de la aerolínea cerca de la salida. Un empleado llamado Jamal levanta la vista y sonríe.
"My suitcase is not here," Paloma says.
«Mi maleta no está aquí», dice Paloma.
"Don't worry, we can check the system," Jamal says. He types her flight number into the computer. "Your bag left on a different flight," Jamal says.
«No se preocupe, podemos revisar el sistema», dice Jamal. Escribe el número de su vuelo en la computadora. «Su maleta salió en otro vuelo», dice Jamal.
"To the wrong city?" Paloma asks.
«¿A la ciudad equivocada?», pregunta Paloma.
"Yes, a mix-up at the last airport," Jamal says. He writes down her address and phone number. "Your suitcase goes to your hotel today," he says.
«Sí, hubo una confusión en el último aeropuerto», dice Jamal. Anota su dirección y número de teléfono. «Su maleta llegará a su hotel hoy», dice él.
Paloma waits at her hotel the next morning. A van stops outside with a delivery driver.
Paloma espera en su hotel a la mañana siguiente. Una camioneta se detiene afuera con un conductor de reparto.
The driver carries a red suitcase with a yellow strap. "Is this yours?" the driver asks.
El conductor lleva una maleta roja con una correa amarilla. «¿Es esta la suya?», pregunta el conductor.
"Yes! Thank you very much," Paloma says.
«¡Sí! Muchas gracias», dice Paloma.
She opens the suitcase and checks her things. Everything is still inside, safe and dry.
Abre la maleta y revisa sus cosas. Todo sigue adentro, seguro y seco.
Paloma calls the airline desk to say thank you. Jamal answers the phone and laughs. She carries the suitcase to her room and unpacks.
Paloma llama al mostrador de la aerolínea para dar las gracias. Jamal contesta el teléfono y se ríe. Ella lleva la maleta a su habitación y desempaca.
