Every Sunday, Halle video calls her grandmother Sigrid. Sigrid lives in another country. The app shows captions under her words. She speaks a different language.
每个星期天，哈莉都会和奶奶西格丽德视频通话。西格丽德住在另一个国家。应用程序会在她说的话下面显示字幕。她说的是另一种语言。
Today, Sigrid smiles and says something warm. The caption reads: "You look tired and a little sick."
今天，西格丽德笑着说了一句暖心的话。字幕显示：“你看上去很累，还有点不舒服。”
Halle sits up straight. "Grandma, are you okay? The captions say I look sick."
哈莉坐直了身子。“奶奶，你还好吗？字幕说我看上去不舒服。”
Sigrid laughs and shakes her head. She says the same sentence again, in a calm voice.
西格丽德笑着摇了摇头。她用平静的声音又说了一遍同样的话。
Halle's mom sits next to her. She listens closely. "I think the app made a mistake," she says. "Grandma probably said something nice."
哈莉的妈妈坐到她身边。她仔细听着。“我觉得是应用程序弄错了，”她说，“奶奶多半说的是句好话。”
Halle looks at the caption again. It still shows the same strange words.
哈莉又看了看字幕。上面还是那几个奇怪的词。
Her mom picks up her own phone. She opens a different translation app and types in what she remembers.
她妈妈拿起自己的手机。她打开另一个翻译应用，把自己记得的话输了进去。
"Here it is," her mom says. "She said, 'You look tired but happy.' That makes sense now."
“有了，”妈妈说，“她说的是：‘你看上去很累，但很开心。’这就说得通了。”
Halle laughs with relief. "The first app heard the word 'sick.' But grandma really said 'happy'!"
哈莉如释重负地笑了。“第一个应用听成了‘不舒服’这个词。可奶奶说的其实是‘开心’！”
Sigrid looks confused. She asks what is funny. Halle explains slowly, and soon everyone laughs together.
西格丽德一脸困惑。她问大家在笑什么。哈莉慢慢地解释了一遍，很快大家一起笑了起来。
"I'm glad it was a mistake," Halle says, "and not bad news."
“还好是弄错了，”哈莉说，“不是什么坏消息。”
They finish the call with plans for a visit next month.
通话结束时，她们约好下个月去看望奶奶。
