Capa de The Note Under the Wiper

Cosmo comes out of the shop. He sees a white paper under his wiper. "Not again," he says.

He parks on this street every Friday. He thinks it is a parking ticket. He pulls out the paper slowly. He is ready to read a big number.

Ele estaciona nesta rua toda sexta-feira. Acha que é uma multa de estacionamento. Puxa o papel devagar. Está pronto para ler um número alto.

But it is not a ticket. It is a note, in blue pen.

Mas não é uma multa. É um bilhete, escrito com caneta azul.

"I like your old car. I have the same one. Coffee?" Under the words, there is a phone number.

"Gosto do seu carro antigo. Tenho o mesmo. Um café?" Embaixo das palavras, há um número de telefone.

Cosmo reads it twice. He looks up and down the street. Across the road, a small blue car stands by the curb. It is the same model as his, with the same round lights.

He laughs. He sits in his car and takes out his phone. He calls the number before he can change his mind.

Ele ri. Senta no carro e pega o celular.

"Hello?" says a woman.

"Alô?", diz uma mulher.

"Hi. This is the old blue car," Cosmo says. "I got your note."

"Oi. Aqui é o carro azul antigo", diz Cosmo. "Recebi o seu bilhete."

She laughs, and he feels better at once. "I am happy you called," she says. "I thought you did not see it."

"I thought it was a ticket," he says.

"Achei que era uma multa", diz ele.

"A ticket! No, no. I only like old cars."

"Uma multa! Não, não. Eu só gosto de carros antigos."

"Then we need to talk about them," Cosmo says. "Do you know the Yellow Cup café? It is busy at lunch, so we are safe."

"Então precisamos conversar sobre eles", diz Cosmo. "Você conhece o café Yellow Cup? Fica cheio na hora do almoço, então é seguro."

"Tomorrow at noon?" she asks.

"Amanhã ao meio-dia?", pergunta ela.

"Yes. I will bring a picture of my engine," he says.

"Sim. Vou levar uma foto do meu motor", diz ele.

He puts the note in his pocket and starts the car. It starts on the first try.

Ele guarda o bilhete no bolso e liga o carro. Ele pega na primeira tentativa.
