The Fundraiser Sign-Up Sheet

Marisa sees a sign-up sheet at the community center. The town has a spring fundraiser this Saturday. Volunteers can help at the bake sale table. Or they can help at the used book table.

Marisa vê uma lista de inscrição no centro comunitário. A cidade vai ter uma campanha de arrecadação de primavera neste sábado. Os voluntários podem ajudar na mesa da venda de doces. Ou podem ajudar na mesa de livros usados.

Marisa likes both jobs. She bakes cookies every weekend. She also reads three books a month. She cannot choose right away.

Marisa gosta das duas tarefas. Ela assa biscoitos todo fim de semana. Ela também lê três livros por mês. Ela não consegue decidir na hora.

She asks the organizer, Mr. Winslow, about both jobs. "The bake sale needs fast baking," he says. "The book table needs careful sorting."

Ela pergunta ao organizador, o Sr. Winslow, sobre as duas tarefas. "A venda de doces precisa de gente rápida para assar", ele diz. "A mesa de livros precisa de uma organização cuidadosa."

Marisa thinks about her kitchen at home. She has cookie dough in the freezer already. She thinks about her bookshelf too. It is neat and full.

Marisa pensa na cozinha da casa dela. Ela já tem massa de biscoito no congelador. Ela também pensa na estante de livros dela. Está organizada e cheia.

"I choose the bake sale," Marisa says. "I already have cookies ready to bake." She smiles. "Baking makes people happy fast."

"Eu escolho a venda de doces", diz Marisa. "Eu já tenho biscoitos prontos para assar." Ela sorri. "Assar deixa as pessoas felizes rapidinho."

Mr. Winslow writes her name on the list. "Perfect," he says. "We need forty dozen cookies by Saturday."

O Sr. Winslow escreve o nome dela na lista. "Perfeito", ele diz. "Precisamos de quarenta dúzias de biscoitos até sábado."

Marisa laughs. "Forty dozen? I need extra butter!"

Marisa ri. "Quarenta dúzias? Vou precisar de manteiga extra!"

She walks home and checks her kitchen. She counts her eggs and her flour. She makes a shopping list for the store.

Ela caminha até em casa e verifica a cozinha. Ela conta os ovos e a farinha. Ela faz uma lista de compras para o mercado.

On Saturday morning, Marisa arrives early. She carries six full trays of cookies. She sets up the table. She lines up the treats in neat rows.

No sábado de manhã, Marisa chega cedo. Ela carrega seis bandejas cheias de biscoitos. Ela monta a mesa. Ela organiza os doces em fileiras bem alinhadas.

Many people come to her table. "These smell wonderful," says a woman at the front. "Can I get a dozen chocolate chip cookies?"

Muitas pessoas vêm até a mesa dela. "Esses aqui têm um cheiro maravilhoso", diz uma mulher na frente. "Posso levar uma dúzia de biscoitos de gotas de chocolate?"

Marisa grabs a paper bag. "Here you go," she says.

The line gets very long. Marisa waves at a boy from the book table. He waves back at her. Then he turns to help his own customers.

A fila fica bem longa. Marisa acena para um garoto da mesa de livros. Ele acena de volta para ela. Depois ele se vira para ajudar os próprios clientes.
