The Mixed-Up Meeting Place

Sam and his friend Dana want to meet for dinner on Friday. Sam sends Dana a text. "Let's meet at the usual place, around seven," he writes.

Sam dan temannya, Dana, ingin bertemu untuk makan malam hari Jumat. Sam mengirim pesan kepada Dana. "Ayo ketemu di tempat biasa, sekitar jam tujuh," tulisnya.

Dana texts back quickly. "Sounds good! See you there."

Dana langsung membalas. "Oke! Sampai ketemu di sana."

Sam smiles at his phone, but then he stops. He and Dana have two usual places. One is a small pizza shop. The other is a noodle restaurant. They both call each spot "the usual place."

Sam tersenyum menatap ponselnya, tetapi lalu ia terhenti. Ia dan Dana punya dua tempat biasa. Yang satu toko pizza kecil. Yang lain restoran mi. Mereka berdua menyebut keduanya "tempat biasa."

Sam sends another text. "Wait, which usual place do you mean? Pizza or noodles?"

Sam mengirim pesan lagi. "Tunggu, tempat biasa yang mana maksudmu? Pizza atau mi?"

He waits for an answer. Ten minutes pass. Then twenty. Dana does not reply.

Ia menunggu jawaban. Sepuluh menit berlalu. Lalu dua puluh. Dana tidak membalas.

Sam checks his phone again and again. There is still no new message. He needs to decide soon, or he will be late.

Sam memeriksa ponselnya berulang kali. Tetap tidak ada pesan baru. Ia harus segera memutuskan, atau ia akan terlambat.

He thinks about the last few times they met. Dana ordered noodles both times. So Sam guesses she wants noodles again.

Ia mengingat beberapa pertemuan terakhir mereka. Kedua kalinya Dana memesan mi. Jadi Sam menebak Dana ingin makan mi lagi.

At seven o'clock, Sam walks into the noodle restaurant. He looks around the room, but he does not see Dana.

Pukul tujuh, Sam masuk ke restoran mi. Ia memandang berkeliling ruangan, tetapi tidak melihat Dana.

He waits by the door for a few minutes. His phone stays quiet. He starts to worry that he guessed wrong.

Ia menunggu di dekat pintu selama beberapa menit. Ponselnya tetap sunyi. Ia mulai khawatir tebakannya salah.

Then the door opens, and Dana walks in with a big smile.

Lalu pintu terbuka, dan Dana masuk dengan senyum lebar.

"Sorry, my phone died earlier!" she says. "I just charged it at work."

"Maaf, tadi ponselku mati!" katanya. "Baru saja kuisi dayanya di kantor."

"That's okay," Sam says. "I guessed noodles, and here you are!"

"Tidak apa-apa," kata Sam. "Aku menebak mi, dan ternyata kamu datang!"

They both laugh and walk to a table by the window.

Mereka berdua tertawa dan berjalan ke meja di dekat jendela.

"Let's order," Dana says, picking up a menu.

"Ayo pesan," kata Dana sambil mengambil menu.
