The History Project Partners

Pearl's teacher paired her with Kavi for the history project. They had one week to finish it together.

Guru Pearl menyatukannya dengan Kavi untuk proyek sejarah. Mereka punya waktu satu minggu untuk menyelesaikannya bersama.

On the first day, Kavi barely spoke. He answered her questions with short words. He looked at his notebook most of the time.

Pada hari pertama, Kavi nyaris tidak bicara. Ia menjawab pertanyaan Pearl dengan kata-kata pendek. Ia lebih sering menatap buku catatannya.

Pearl thought he did not like the project. Or maybe he did not like working with her.

Pearl mengira Kavi tidak menyukai proyek itu. Atau mungkin ia tidak suka bekerja dengannya.

"If you have other ideas, we can use them," she said carefully.

"Kalau kamu punya ide lain, kita bisa memakainya," katanya dengan hati-hati.

Kavi looked up, surprised. "No, I like your ideas," he said. "I'm just quiet when I meet new people."

Kavi mendongak, terkejut. "Tidak, aku suka idemu," katanya. "Aku hanya pendiam kalau bertemu orang baru."

"Oh," Pearl said. "I thought you were bored."

"Oh," kata Pearl. "Kukira kamu bosan."

"Not at all," Kavi said. "I actually think this topic is interesting. I just don't talk much at first."

"Sama sekali tidak," kata Kavi. "Sebenarnya menurutku topik ini menarik. Aku hanya tidak banyak bicara di awal."

Pearl smiled and relaxed a little. "Me too, sometimes," she said. "Let's start with the timeline."

Pearl tersenyum dan sedikit merasa lega. "Aku juga begitu, kadang-kadang," katanya. "Ayo mulai dari garis waktu."

They worked together every day that week. Kavi talked easily by the third day.

Mereka bekerja bersama setiap hari pada minggu itu. Kavi sudah bicara dengan lancar pada hari ketiga.

By Friday, he told jokes between the facts and maps.

Menjelang hari Jumat, ia melontarkan lelucon di sela-sela fakta dan peta.

They finished the project early and printed it together at the library.

Mereka menyelesaikan proyek itu lebih awal dan mencetaknya bersama di perpustakaan.

"Same partner next time?" Kavi asked with a smile.

"Kita berpasangan lagi lain kali?" tanya Kavi sambil tersenyum.

"Same partner," Pearl said, and they high-fived over the stack of papers.

"Pasangan yang sama," kata Pearl, dan mereka bertos di atas tumpukan kertas itu.
