The Ferry That Was Full

Tamsin arrived at the dock ten minutes before the ferry. A worker stood at the ramp with a clipboard.

Tamsin tiba di dermaga sepuluh menit sebelum feri berangkat. Seorang petugas berdiri di jembatan naik dengan papan jepit.

"Sorry, this ferry is full," he said. "The next one leaves in two hours," he added.

"Maaf, feri ini penuh," katanya. "Feri berikutnya berangkat dua jam lagi," tambahnya.

Tamsin looked out at the small island across the water. Two hours felt like a long time to wait.

Tamsin memandang pulau kecil di seberang air. Dua jam terasa lama untuk menunggu.

She walked along the dock and looked at the boats. A small motorboat sat near the end of the dock. A sign on it read "Water Taxi, Ask Inside."

Ia berjalan menyusuri dermaga dan melihat perahu-perahu. Sebuah perahu motor kecil berada di dekat ujung dermaga. Sebuah papan di perahu itu bertuliskan "Taksi Air, Tanya di Dalam."

Tamsin walked into the little office next to the sign. "Can you take me to the island?" she asked.

Tamsin masuk ke kantor kecil di sebelah papan itu. "Bisakah Anda membawa saya ke pulau?" tanyanya.

"Sure, it takes fifteen minutes," the driver said.

"Tentu, butuh lima belas menit," kata sopirnya.

Tamsin paid for a ticket and stepped onto the boat. The small boat sped across the water fast.

Tamsin membeli tiket dan melangkah naik ke perahu. Perahu kecil itu melaju cepat di atas air.

Waves splashed up over the sides now and then. Tamsin held her bag close and laughed at the spray.

Sesekali ombak memercik ke atas sisi perahu. Tamsin memegang tasnya erat-erat dan menertawakan percikan air itu.

The boat reached the island well before the ferry. She stepped onto the dock and looked at the sea. The ferry was still just a dot near the mainland.

Perahu itu tiba di pulau jauh sebelum feri. Ia melangkah ke dermaga dan memandang laut. Feri itu masih hanya sebuah titik di dekat daratan utama.
