Nour walks up to the bakery counter. She looks at the last chocolate croissant on the shelf. At the same moment, another hand reaches for it too.
नूर बेकरी के काउंटर तक पहुँचती है। वह शेल्फ़ पर रखे आख़िरी चॉकलेट क्रोइसां को देखती है। उसी पल एक और हाथ भी उसकी ओर बढ़ता है।
"Oh, sorry," the man says, and pulls his hand back. "You go ahead."
"ओह, माफ़ कीजिए," आदमी कहता है और अपना हाथ पीछे खींच लेता है। "आप ले लीजिए।"
"No, please," Nour says. "You were here first."
"नहीं, प्लीज़," नूर कहती है। "आप पहले आए थे।"
They both step back and look at each other.
वे दोनों पीछे हट जाते हैं और एक-दूसरे को देखते हैं।
"Let's split it," the man says. "I'm Tomasz."
"चलिए, इसे बाँट लेते हैं," आदमी कहता है। "मैं तोमाश हूँ।"
"Nour," she says. "That sounds fair."

The woman behind the counter smiles and cuts the croissant in half. She wraps each piece and hands them over the counter.

Nour and Tomasz sit down at a small table near the window. Each holds half a croissant and a cup of coffee.
नूर और तोमाश खिड़की के पास एक छोटी मेज़ पर बैठ जाते हैं। हर किसी के पास आधा क्रोइसां और एक कप कॉफ़ी है।
"I almost never come here this early," Tomasz says. "I had an early meeting today."

"I usually come at noon," Nour says. "Today I woke up early for no reason."

They talk about the bakery's other pastries. They agree the chocolate croissant always sells out fast.

"Next time, I'll come early and buy two," Tomasz says.

"Or we can just share again," Nour says with a smile.

They finish their coffee. Tomasz asks for her number before they leave for work.
