A couple who own a goose that lays a golden egg every day grow impatient with their good fortune — and gamble it all away chasing a shortcut to riches.
A man and his wife had the good fortune to own a Goose that laid a golden egg every single day.
एक आदमी और उसकी पत्नी के पास एक हंसिनी थी जो रोज़ाना एक सोने का अंडा देती थी, और यह उनका सौभाग्य था।
Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough.
भाग्यशाली होते हुए भी, वे जल्द ही यह सोचने लगे कि वे उतनी तेज़ी से अमीर नहीं हो रहे जितना उन्हें होना चाहिए।
They imagined that if the Goose could lay golden eggs, she must be made of gold inside. So they thought that if they could get all that gold at once, they would become very rich indeed.
उन्होंने सोचा कि अगर हंसिनी सोने के अंडे दे सकती है, तो उसके अंदर भी ज़रूर सोना ही भरा होगा। इसलिए उन्होंने सोचा कि अगर वे एक ही बार में वह सारा सोना पा लें, तो वे वाक़ई बहुत अमीर बन जाएँगे।
So the man and his wife decided to kill the Goose. But when they cut her open, they found that she was exactly like any other goose. There was no gold inside her at all.
तो आदमी और उसकी पत्नी ने हंसिनी को मार डालने का फ़ैसला किया। पर जब उन्होंने उसे चीरा, तो पाया कि वह बिल्कुल किसी भी आम हंसिनी जैसी ही थी। उसके अंदर सोने का नामोनिशान तक नहीं था।
Now they had neither their daily golden egg nor their precious Goose.
अब उनके पास न तो रोज़ का सोने का अंडा बचा था और न ही उनकी अनमोल हंसिनी।
Those who have plenty want more, and so lose all that they have.
जिनके पास बहुत कुछ होता है वे और अधिक चाहते हैं, और इस तरह वे वह सब कुछ भी गँवा बैठते हैं जो उनके पास था।
