Amina hears a knock on her door. Her neighbor stands outside, looking worried. "Can I borrow your ladder?" he asks.
अमीना को अपने दरवाज़े पर दस्तक सुनाई देती है। उसका पड़ोसी बाहर खड़ा है, चिंतित-सा। "क्या मैं आपकी सीढ़ी उधार ले सकता हूँ?" वह पूछता है।
"My gutter is full of leaves," he explains. "I want to clean it before the rain." Amina brings her tall ladder outside.
"मेरी नाली पत्तों से भरी है," वह समझाता है। "मैं बारिश से पहले उसे साफ़ करना चाहता हूँ।" अमीना अपनी ऊँची सीढ़ी बाहर ले आती है।
She carries it to his front yard. The ladder is heavy but not too big. She sets it against the wall carefully.
वह उसे उसके आगे के आँगन तक ले जाती है। सीढ़ी भारी है, पर बहुत बड़ी नहीं। वह उसे सावधानी से दीवार के सहारे टिका देती है।
"Do you need help holding it?" she offers. He nods and thanks her kindly. Amina holds the ladder steady at the bottom.
"क्या आपको इसे पकड़ने में मदद चाहिए?" वह पूछती है। वह सिर हिलाता है और उसे प्यार से धन्यवाद देता है। अमीना नीचे सीढ़ी को मज़बूती से पकड़े रहती है।
Her neighbor climbs up carefully with a bucket. He pulls out wet leaves and sticks. Some leaves fall right onto the grass.
उसका पड़ोसी बाल्टी लेकर सँभलकर ऊपर चढ़ता है। वह गीले पत्ते और टहनियाँ निकालता है। कुछ पत्ते सीधे घास पर गिर जाते हैं।
"This is a lot of leaves," he says. Amina laughs and hands him a bag. He fills the bag slowly and carefully.
"यह तो बहुत सारे पत्ते हैं," वह कहता है। अमीना हँसती है और उसे एक थैला थमा देती है। वह धीरे-धीरे और ध्यान से थैला भरता है।
Birds fly out from a nearby tree. The afternoon sun feels warm on their backs. Amina checks her phone for the time.
पास के पेड़ से पक्षी उड़ जाते हैं। दोपहर की धूप उनकी पीठ पर गुनगुनी लगती है। अमीना समय देखने के लिए अपना फ़ोन देखती है।
After twenty minutes, the gutter is clean. Her neighbor climbs down safely. "Thank you so much for your help," he says.
बीस मिनट बाद नाली साफ़ हो जाती है। उसका पड़ोसी सुरक्षित नीचे उतर आता है। "आपकी मदद के लिए बहुत-बहुत शुक्रिया," वह कहता है।
Amina smiles and picks up her ladder. She carries it back to her garage. Helping a neighbor felt like a good morning.
अमीना मुस्कुराती है और अपनी सीढ़ी उठा लेती है। वह उसे वापस अपने गैराज में ले जाती है। पड़ोसी की मदद करना एक अच्छी सुबह जैसा लगा।
